OT: To keep the Hatch or to sell the hatch...
I have the opporunity to get a 1991 Eagle Talon TSI AWD for next to nothing. I could sell my hatch when i get the head back and build the Talon to hell and back. I know reliability on DSM's isnt great, but if built correctly then why wouldnt it last??
Someone PLEASE talk me out of selling my hatch...
The hatch is expected to put about 220 to the wheels NA with the HondaSaver head Im getting on a stock bore B18C1... The DSM could be put at an infinte HP level with the money id get from the hatch...
If I sold my hatch, Id be able to pay off my debt as well... grrrrr!

Dude 220whp in a hatch all-motor is SICK.
Your car weighs what, 2100lbs. at the most?
I know my car will run a 12.99 or at most a 13.0 with only 175whp and weighing in at 2040lbs, so your car would dip mid 12's on slicks easily, don't you think?
Add to that the killer handling potential of your hatch and you've easily got a better package than some DSM.
Sure the DSM is boosted and is AWD, but those AWD trannies are like glass and are you familiar enough with DSM parts to source trannies and/or parts if and when they break?
That DSM will weigh what, 300lbs. or more?
Sorry bro, but an AWD Talon just ain't my cup of tea. You really have to boost the **** out of them to make them quick, and they're more of a one-trick pony if you ask me in terms of an overall car. They'll launch out quick and make a decent drag-type car, but what more can you expect from them?
There are more successful roadrace and SCCA Solo I and II cars that are hatches than there are AWD Talons/DSMs.
But of course you'll get biased answers here - it is a Honda MB.

Well Tom, as far as persuading me to keep the hatch, you sure are doing a good job.
Rocket and I are hoping for mid to low 12's with slicks when I get it tuned.
The most appealing part of selling the hatch is no longer being in debt... it's only $3k but still... maybe i COULD just fix up the DSM and sell it. Who knows... Thanks for all the opinions

Realistically, you aren't going to recoup nearly what you put into it.
Think back to your original desire to have a sick hatch. Now, after all this work, you have one and you want to get rid of it. This is the baffling part of the Honda hobby.
I don't know how bad yoru debt is, but that is a beautiful car that is definitley worth keeping.

if you decide to sell the hatch i want it as for dsm, they can be SICK fast without much $$$, a friend of mine is on fastasknutz racing team, one of their members has a 1g awd with intake, boost controller, bov, 2.5" exaust and a big 16g running 11s! crazy *edit* as for tranny, that would be their weakness, luckily, a tranny for them is dirt cheap

i own a dsm. its not a bad car i have ff tho not awd. it still rides. yes they are expensive to maintain but once maintained they will last. if i were you i would probably keep the hatch but stock awd dsm's run 14'sabout mid 14 but anyways yes keep your hatch if you are truly a honda lover man if you took all the pride to build it keep it ****. i jus like dsm's because i own one

i love your hatch dude, i say keep it, but debt is something hard to overcome, and with something like that you'll still be in debt, but the way i see it, is that you said you'd be able to pay off debt if you sold your hatch, but you'd be in debt again once you start to build the DSM, its up to you, but i'd stick wit the hatch.....they look better...

I beat very well tuned very dialed in DSMs in autox all day long... in my untuned GSR/CX hybrid.
But on the streets/quartermile, they will make my car look like a tricycle.
So if you want a fat pig of a car that hauls ***, get the DSM.
If you want a nimble quick car, keep your hatch.
Also theft might not be as much of an issue with a stealthy-but-fast-as-nuts DSM...

Re: OT: To keep the Hatch or to sell the hatch... (B19CivicHB)
I would get the 91 Talon..Fix it up..and see where it goes from there...
Im actually looking into getting a 91 TSi but for now im stuck with my civic...
Ive seen many Talons with just a larger turbo, exhaust, fuel pump, injectors, and a boost controller in the high 11's/low low 12's....If the talon doesnt have a lot of miles on it..Id say go for it!! Of course you'll run into the normal problems of a modified car and sure, trannys will be hard to come by but unless you beat the **** out of the car every time you drive it, it will last...
Good luck

DSM trannies SUCK. I seen friends go through stock ones like crazy, and then they spend a bigillion dollars on a built one, and that still blows. The tranny design on them is not the greatest for performance.
