Icon2 Opinons Please.

ok i have sort of a prolblem deciding on what to do. so heres a little background. i have a 93 ex sedan with the factory z6 in it right now. i sold my zc swapped crx and bought this for a 1k two years ago. Now the Problems. input shaft bearing is just about shot, clutch is slipping horribly bad, rear main seal leak, and overall the motor is just slowly going ( it has 160k on it right now) now i have about 4k saved up and a few major turbo components. i have decided either way i go im going turbo.

i already have
-hondata s300 with boost
-aem uego
-4 bar map sensor
-precision 650cc injectors
- T3/to4b turbo

Now i still need other bits and pecies for my kit but now with my motor going i need a motor. i have about just enough money to either fully build the z6 or buy a b16 swap and slap the kit on which would you do?

If you have the money for a b16 swap I'm sure you can find a GSR swap for the same price. That would be the best bet. Swap it in and start buying parts for the turbo kit.

I would go that route but i am set on istalling the turbo kit right away after either the swap or build

^^^That. b16 swaps are a bit overrated considering that gsr swaps aren't going for a whole lot more right now.

4K would go a long way towards a singlecam turbo build though. If you're dead set against gsr swap, I'd say build/turbo a z6. If you do it right, you'll be faster than an n/a gsr for cheaper.

I'm not against the gsr swap it's the fact that i still have to buy a Manifold, Intercooler, Wastegate, Bov, and lines to complete my kit and with all that is about $1000 and with the b16 swap with all the minor parts to go with the swap (I.E. clutch, timing belt, water pump, gaskets etc.) and with b16's going for about $2200 plus shipping that 8-$900 more on a gsr swap would mean waiting or skimping. waiting i cant do as this is my DD and skimping i most ceartianly do as i myself am a auto tech there is no point it only leads to headaches.

Well. It all depends on your preference really. If you build the D16 you can put a load of boost on it, whereas if you buy the b16 [I would go GSR instead though] you can only put soo much boost on those stock internals. I don't know how a built and boosted SOHC compares to a slightly boosted DOHC though x]

That's what I'm saying though... I was planning on spending $2200 in a b16 swap until I found my gsr swap for $2000 local pickup.

Check the marketplace, you might be surprised.

if i were you i would do one of 2 things:
pick up a clean d16 swap and build the bottom end. then boost it.
or pick up a clean ls swap and boost it.

swaps aren't expensive if you know where to look.

Call me a hater, but I hate singal cams.

Putting all tech talk aside

when you pop the hood on your honda to show off what you got

Its all about the...

DOHC VTEC

When people see DOHC VTEC on the valve cover they think damn thats cool

When people see DOHC VTEC they know you mean business

DOHC VTEC is the real deal from honda and is what VTEC is all about N/A or Boosted

Trust me you want...

I'm just saying it's people like you that's keeping my D16 stay in my car and not throw the B16 in thats sitting like 3 feet from my car. Most people Don't realize the D16 potential.

I've seen a 12 second NA D16Z6, it was awesome. But I'm a huge fan of NA B16s so that's my vote. The JACCS Civic sold me on the B16A.

Yeah your right the D16 has potential.

But I said putting all the tech talk aside.

Its just way cooler for people to look at that DOHC VTEC even if they dont know anything about cars.

Besides DOHC VTEC is the real deal from honda, the first DOHC VTEC engines came on the market in '87 in japan. Its wasn't till later in the 90's when they created the SOHC VTEC, mainly cause gas made a sharp jump in prices in the north american markets.

i think i've made up my mind and am going to stick with the z6 i'm probably going to buy a whole z6 swap so that i have a spare motor but with the limited time and just the reliablity issue between an unbuilt b16 and a built z6 that is unless of course someone wants to offer up a ls or b16 swap for 1k.....j/k thanks for everyones input.

When you build it you should make your own build thread. A turboed Z6 is always cool to see.

you could pick up a complete LS swap for around 700 locally and boost that and make good power and tq. Even build the bottom end and make more than a b16 turbo for less.

Meh, it's all about your pref. I love my N/A B16 over my old N/A Z6 but that's just me.(love the high rev/sound from that engine)
I've never owned a boosted car so I can't speak to that. So long as you don't end up wussing out and buying a SRT-4 I think it'll turn out to be a sweet build.

A friend of mine has a 2005 SRT-4 ACR stage 2 w/ turbo toys... Owned it less than a year and blew the timing belt, 2 vaccume lines, and then finally his head went boom. Yet all my honda's have lasted well beyond the 10 year mark.

I'm sorry, but that is just about the dumbest reason I've EVER heard to buy an engine!!! I agree that a DOHC motor has more potential that a single cam, but buying one just bc other people will look at your engine and think it's "cool"?!? I'd rather have people think my ish is slow cuz I got a single cam and then blow 'em away.

To the OP, glad you decided to go turbo on the d16 especially since you already have some parts for it. You'll have more fun with a boosted car IMO...

All I've got to say is I've never lost to a singal cam ever.

I think its funny when people talk about D-series potential, when thier absoleete.

The DOHC engine was A new revolution for engine performance and design and efficiency and power and etc...

Weather its a vtec or not you gotta have a dohc engine, or IMO your rollin with weaksauce.

And all you hardcore z6 singal cam people. Why dont you swap in the ORIGINAL DOHC ZC ENGINE???????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????

Thier even cheaper..........

I'm assuming you meant "obsolete?" And you sound like just what I expect from hater-tech, pickin an engine cuz other people think it's "cool." How lame can you get...

Like I said in my previous post, I agree that the B18 has more potential than a D series; but that doesn't mean a D can't make respectable numbers (as long as it's boosted.)
