Default Opinions: Cheaper to do Mini Me or full z6/y8 Switch.

My friend wanted to do a B series swap but I'm giving him all his options..

Which in your opinion, for a Sedan Chassis, would be the cheaper way to go. A d16z6/y8 or a Mini Me. He's got 4door DX right now. So it'd be just getting the parts to do mini me stuff.

depends...check out my writeup in my signature

I paid $555 for my entire mini-me swap...

a z6/y8 changeover would be a lot better though, I made the mistake of not getting the better transmission so right now i'm equal to or slower than a stock EX...waiting on a better tranny...

A mini-me swap will have slightly more compression then just a z6/y8 swap(i.e. ls vtec). but u will still have to change the transmission, that trans isnt geared good at all. u can get a used z6 motor anywhere from 400.00 to 1000.00 depending on miles/jdm/usdm. u can get a mini-me swap with a good head for like 500.00 + gaskets. i would do the min-me... just my opinion

Yeah yo. I showed him Bauley's write up on SOHC. If we can find him a cheap y8 that'd be damned good. Run it off the OBD1 computer instead. Post up peeps.

uhh tell him to just save the cash until he has enough cash for a b series swap. if he does do this swap, he will be 500$-1000$ behind, but again its his choice what he does with his money..

Yeah let's not talk about B series anything unless it's putting B series parts, on a D series.

You'd be surprised how many people can't afford a B series or just doesn't want one. Like me.

This was just to see which way would be cheaper. Just the head or a full transplant.

Closely priced, but the complete swap will be better.
It's still a 1.5. I can tell you from experience, the 1.6 is better.

Pretty vague, but worth 2 cents.

i did a mini me in my 94 ex and i like it alot better. of course i already had the vtec head, wiring, and tranny for it, but it pulls alot better i think than the stock bottom end. i put a y7 bottom end on it. and just so u know, the ferio is just as long as a coupe.

Yeah I was wondering about the comment of it "Not doing anything in a four door". It weighs a little more but there's no extreme difference.

I told him his search on a z6 would be easy anyway so he might as well get the whole heart transplant. With everyone doing the B series swaps and all.

Thanks for the more technical input to those who posted.

get a d16z6, get the normal i/h/e and put some zc pistons in it. you will make more power and tourqu than a b16. then add a y8 cam and intake manifold and your set pretty good. and still you are looking at a price that is no where near what a b16 swap cost. unless your friend plans to do internal work to the b series motor, this is the way that i would go. oh wait it is the way that i'm going ;-)
