Opened up transmission have a quick bearing question
I opened up my transmission as a last ditch effort to try and stop a clicking/rattling noise I have been getting under heavy load when accelerating.Especially when going up a hill with passengers. I thought it was input shaft bearing but that was def fine. I am trying to check everything as i put it back in. I noticed that the needle bearing on the counter shaft (number 14 on the drawing) has enough play in the outer race that it can hit the ball bearing directly above it (number 13 in the drawing). Is this normal to have that much movement in the outer race. The link in my post below has a video showing what I am talking about. I was hoping to get this put back together tonight so any help here is appreciated.

Re: Opened up transmission have a quick bearing question
If its a needle bearing then the outer race will actually usually come right off (only the Si tranny has a needle bearing, the rest are a ball bearing) That said if it, or the bearing next to it are making noise, or the bearing on the other end of the input shaft, replace them. You might also wanna check the diff bearings and the other counter shaft bearing.

Thanks, that is exactly what i needed to know. It is an SI tranny, i actually took it to a couple of the shops in the area that do a lot of work on hondas. They said all the bearings were good except one diff bearing had a little bit of a weird noise when you spin it very slowly; so I changed that. I just noticed the movement in the race and wanted to make sure that was normal before everything was back on the car.
