omgshawn's daily driver 'build' - EG hatch *Idle problems...halp!* (last post)
What's up people, just picked up a 93' dx hatch a couple days ago to use a daily driver. I'm currently building a s13 with a vh45 and doing a full restoration (http://forums.nicoclub.com/my-s13-bu...o-t496023.html if anyone is interested) so I needed something to drive. It's an auto(fail) but only has 95K miles on it and no rust except a few inches on the rear arch. I couldn't pass it up for $750. My plans include fitment, slammage, nice interior/system and a engine refresh/5 speed swap. Like I said since it's my DD so I'm going to keep the mostly engine stock and swap back on a stock exhaust. Now onto some pics...
These were the day I got it
So far I've swapped in some black seats out of my brothers old dx, started installing a system and cleaned everything...I'll have to get some more pics tomorrow.
I just started a new job so once paychecks come in I will be buying things for her. First on the list is the strut nuts for the rear hatch glass and ex doors/power options lol. It also has working a/c which is kick *** with this weather lately. Any who let me know what you guys think

Re: omgshawn's daily driver 'build' - EG hatch
So, having some idleing problems. First it was doing the up-down up-down, pulled the iac off and cleaned it with brake cleaner, fixed the problem then it started doing it again. So I pulled it off again, cleaned it again, and the same thing...it'll be fine for a day or 2 then go back to the up-down.
It's stalled on start up once or twice and then will be hard to start. It will idle fine when cold but once it warms up it starts having problems. I also thing my rad fan isn't turning on so I need to look into that. The CEL came on so I ran codes and got 1 long flash and 3 short ones, and 1 long flash and 4 short ones, so 13 and 14 correct? If so that's Baro and the iac. Could the iac just be shot? And for the baro I read you need to get a new ecu so I guess I'll start looking for one. Does this conclusion seem right?
Parts wise, I'm saving for plugs, wires, dizy cap and rotor, new gasket set, timing and water pump set, aluminum radiator and fan, new vac and coolant lines, and probably some things I'm forgetting. Looking to refresh the engine without spending a ton and having the car off the road long.

Looks just like the one I bought last week paid about the same and mine DIDN'T run so good deal man I'll be watching both builds cause I still creep around on nico from time to time but I'm done with nissans forever. Do a few RB swaps and you'll learn to hate them too :D

Haha, RB swaps aren't too bad, I love my nissan :p
I would also like to add that sometimes the car runs fine, but other times the CEL will come on randomly and it will run like ****. It changes like every hour

Good buy.
As for the erratic idle, have you looked through your vacuum hoses and grounds?
Low coolant level will also cause it to bounce around a bit, too.
You're on the right track by taking care of all the typical tune up issues.
I'm sure it'll be purring in no time. Good luck!

if its throwing a iac code then it most likely needs to be replaced, if cleaning it doesnt solve the problem for more then 2 days your gonna need a new one.

Re: omgshawn's daily driver 'build' - EG hatch
good find..except for being auto
like str8ej said check all your vacuums, coolant level, bleed if necessary
and if ur ecu is bad,why not wait til u do the manual swap and get a manual ecu?
anyway good luck w/ build

Re: omgshawn's daily driver 'build' - EG hatch
Thanks, it's still running so I guess that's good lol
I want to replace all the vac lines, just need to find the down time from work to do it. I've checked most of the ones I can get to easily and they seemed fine, still don't know for sure though. As for grounds they didn't look that corroded but who knows I'm going to pull them all off and give the surfaces a wire wheel hopefully soon.
The 5 speed swap will be few months down the road so waiting is kind of out of the option, I don't even know if it's(ecu) bad or not. Now it will have a very fast up-down idle when I'm off of the gas or if I barely touch it, yet the CEL doesn't come on like it used to. I've read that it has something to do with the injectors cutting off(to save fuel) around 1100rpms.
I'm going to do a continuous check on the iacv and see if it's clicking with 12v, if not I'll buy a different one, new ones are like $200+
The coolant needs to be flushed anyways so I'll do that and make sure it's bled right, also going to clean/check the fitv. I'll do what I said above to the iacv and if it's still happening I guess replace the ecu.

Also what I've noticed, on the TB pulley there's another cable that runs towards the front I'm pretty sure, figured it was for cruise yet I have no switches for it...odd?
