Default okay i need emmisions help

okay well i got stopped and i wasnt aware of my liscense being suspended, i guess it was from emmisions which i only failed twice, but thats besides the point. my question is that i posted earlier about my emmisions, and i doubled the standards on both things measured. i was told that usually means you are running rich. so my question is what can i do about it so i can get my car to pass and get my liscense back.

What do you have done to your engine? If it's stock and your emmisions are through the roof you may have to replace something.

first answer this...
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by _BEN_ &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">What do you have done to your engine? If it's stock and your emmisions are through the roof you may have to replace something. </TD></TR></TABLE>

then these...

have you tuned your ECU?
do you run adjustable cam grear(s)?
FPR?

then we can help you better.

what #'s did you test before?

two cats are not going to help, the second one will almost never get hot enough to do anything other than obstruct exhaust flow.

sounds like your O2 is weak or going bad. CELs?

you could lower your fuel pressure. knock it down by 5psi and youll be in like flynn as both of those are a result of unburned fuel.

i have no CEL's but my alternator light is on.
i think my alternator is weak becuase the light goes away sometimes when i rev the engine and my lights get brighter when the engine is revved.
how would i go about lowering my fuel pressure?
ive also been told to advance my timing, would this help?

that will lower the pressure at idle... only if you have a larger fuel pump...and it will do it permanently. You want something temporary.

do a search on Ebay for a B&M fuel pressure regulator and gauge.

throw in a new O2 (NGK or OEM only) and a set of plugs and you'll probibly pass.

if not pick up a B&M set and run the fuel pressure down to pass, then back up to make sure you don't damage anything.

I've helped 4 people (3 heavily modded) in the chicago burbs pass emissions with the same idea, it does work.
But do the O2 first, at 100k it's time to be replaced anyway.

if they're only doing the idle test, run it down 20psi from what it is normally.
if they're going to do a dyno run, pull it down 10psi max.

but again, drive super cautious with this done, the engine is lean and it will damage it if you push it.
I did mine in a gas station that was a couple blocks away, then set it back to normal in the same station.

Id say thats probably too much for the numbers hes giving and the limits there. 5 psi should do the trick and put him below both numbers.

true, but I don't like people sniffing around on my car so I like to be sure that I will pass and not be tested for 2 years.

BTW (in IL) from what I can tell, if you fail more than twice, you get tested again in 1 year not the normal 2.
