Default OK, someone educate me on all the abbreviations...

Yes, please. Before I joined this forum, I knew that Civics had a 1.6-liter engine, and later Civics had a 1.7-liter engine. However, it would seem as though cars are referred to as letters here and engines are referred to as a combination of letters and numbers.

For example, if you ask me, my Civic is a 1995 sedan with a 1.6-liter engine and automatic transmission...how would that translate into "forum-lingo" here, since I very rarely see cars and engines referred to in this way?

Kthx.

D series engines are the engines that come in every civic except the 99-00 Si.

These are d15's and d16's, meaning 1.5 liter and 1.6 liter. d17 is 1.7, etc

B series are motors that came in integras, also in the 99-00 civic si.

b16, b18, meaning 1.6 liter and 1.8 liter.

your engine code is stamped on your block, and thats the basics for engine codes.

all d series motors (mostly) are single overhead cam (sohc)

all b series are dual overhead cam (dohc)

Everyone's got the engine code down...the letters you're talking about for the "cars" is the chassis code (the body style)...ef = 88-91 civic, eg = 92-95 civic, ek = 96-00, etc.
