ok read this very closely..i got a buddy who has a EG hatch with a b16 swap with cable tranny converted to hydro, here recently we noticed the engine was movin ALOT so we thought a motor mount was broke..come to find out it wasnt but was a mount BRACKET that broke..its the bracket on the back of the motor betwen the mount to the motor and mount to the frame the lil piece that bolts to the tranny

and the previous owner who installed the swap seems to look like they only used 1 bolt to the tranny from that bracket where there is 2 holes for TWO bolts...and the BAD part is that somehow it ripped the bolt completely out of the block..and we tried to put the other bolt in but we cant line up the hole..

now to the confusin part...a "V8" guy told him to use some kinda chains or somethin..i guess somethin them redneck v8 guys put together..but i cant figure out what hes talkin bout..said they use it so they dont break the trannys from all the torque so they use some kinda wire or chain to hook to the..beats me what there talkin but i wanna know if anyone has heard anything like this or knows a better way to fix this without havin to pull the motor and fixin this problem..

I know what you are talking about sort of. .. i have a friend who's dad owns an old car. . can't remember what it is but they called it a Cuda. . .but he says that they have to use chains on the engine because of the tourque as well. That car is a beast though, and he didn't explain to me how the chains work or anything like that but i'll try to talk to him today and see if i can get more info about it for ya.

ive seen that on older chevys it was hooked from the exhaust manifold on both sides to the upper control arm bar thing. i dont see what your going to hook it up to on a honda though. just fix it right. same thing happened to my friends hatch but he broke a chunk off the tranny where that rear triangle mount goes.

the car the one guys thinking of is a baracuda. and chains on cars are for only rednecks. Dont do it its only going to make more problems get it fixed and u wont find ur self stranded on the road. or even worse brake down trying to run away from the cops. lol well if you want to fix it for cheap buy a used mount from someone else.

its not the mount thats broke, its the piece off the tranny where the bracket mounts

The chains were used on the left (drivers) side of big US made V8 engines to stop the engine from breaking the left motor mount. Rear wheel drive cars tend to try to lift the left side of the engine under heavy torque, which would break the left side motor mount. To stop this, a chain or steel cable was bolted to the left head of the engine and down to the frame with a little slack left in the chain so that under normal driving, the rubber mount would take up the normal shock and vibration. When the engine was under heavy torque, such as in a drag race the chain would get tight and prevent the left side of the engine from lifting and breaking the mount. Chevrolet even had a recall in the 1970's and installed a steel cable on some of it's cars with 396 and 427 cubic inch engines. Hope this clarify's the chain question. Brian
