Default ok i need HELP!!! NOW

ok so heres my problem i have a 99 si..turboed it awhile back..cars been acting funny ever sence but nothing serious..,for the past week..vtec will only work right after i start the car..i have to turn it on and off to have vtec work..but thats not the problem..yesterday i used 89 gas instead of 91 for some unknown stupid reason...and today my car started bogging from a roll and at high rpm's and also my CEL is flashing i think its about 49 flashes then it stays on...also i have a **** load of blow by...i just want to know wsup...becuz i have a lsv motor gettin built now but wont be done for another 2 months..so i need this car..i was thinking it could be a missfire...some one help me.....thanks

Start by pulling the plugs, that may tell you part of the problem

Yup Yup.. Check everything.. You should have put in 91 man! lol.. hope everything works out.. double check the CEL codes.

ya i now ive NEVER put in 89 but for some odd reason i did yesterday... but ya i hope its nothing that will stop me from driving it for another 2-3 months. more info is welcome.


and plus it runs normal at idle so how would taking the spark plugs off make a diff?

ok here the up dated.. u reset my ecu(disconnected neg. end of bat for 20 min) i started the car...took off each spark plug at a time..starting from the dist side. all but the one sec from the dist. side kill the motor when i take them out..does this mean by 2nd piston is fucked? can i drive like this?

when he told you to take your spark plugs out, i don't think he meant for you to do it while it's running. i think he meant to pull all of the plugs out while the car is off and make some observations of the tips. the color/sediment on the spark plugs can tell you if you're running lean, rich, burning oil, coolant, etc.

btw, you said you looked at your ECU flashing the codes...but count them and tell us exactly what the code is.

EDIT: and when you say "VTEC not working," how can you tell?

ok i didnt take off the actuall spark plug while the car running im not an idiot..i pulled the spark plug wire out from each piston...and the one that kept the car on while it was off obviously is the piston that isnt workin in the first place......as far as the ecu goes it keeps flashing none stop...and for the vtec.........i can tell because of 2 reason...b4 i could hear it cross over now i cant...and 2nd b4 it would be faster..now i cant rev higher then 4500 or else the car starts to MAD bogg...

that means your ECU has gone into what's called "limp mode." The computer won't let it rev past 4500. Do you have a compression tester? Also, more details on your setup please.

okay... you aren't really clear about what you observed from your test...

you did a cylinder balance test by pulling off the plugs, but you said that the second cylinder made your engine shut off..?? that would mean that a high percentage of the engine is counting on this piston...

the way you use this test is you check your RPMs... if they drop, that is good... but all cylinders should have an equal drop in the RPM range... i don't think they are suposed to be greater than 30rpm or so different...

if you suspect a piston/rings to be bad do a compression test... possibly your rings are fried and aren't compressing enough air... you should do a dry compression, and a wet compression test...

and when i mean by wet test, just simply throw some motor oil into the cylinder just to we the cylinder walls... don't put a **** load in there... just a couple of squirts... if the difference is great... say you get greater numbers than the dry test, your rings are messed up... unless it's your valves...

do that and let us know what you found...

ok for starters i CAN rev past 4500 its just when i do the car starts to bog even harder then at low rpms...for the test...the car DOESNT turn off when i pull spark plug wire number 2 out..but when 1-3-4 are pulled the car shakes and shuts off...i now my piston rings are fried..after i turboed my motor it made it even worst...my questions is..how long can i drive the car like this..till i finish my new motor and put it in...

something is seriously wrong with your number 2 cylinder, since you put the wrong gas in it could be anything from piston rings, destroied spark plug, etc. do not drive the car or you risk "catastrophic engine failure" (think hole in block). as for how long it could last, who knows? 1 day? 1 year? just if you do drive it STOP BOOSTING. keep the **** away from boost because that will kill your engine more.

well im not turbo NE MORE..im goin all motor i have a fully built ls-vtec sittin in my garage..im just missing some minor things..so if this motor blows oh well... but i still need it for another week or so

How does the car free rev. What i mean by this is: in neutral can you rev the car or does it bogg? Does the car smoke and what color smoke is it?

i never tried reving it neutral...and no smoke threw the back just i gota lota blow by so wat i did it put a hose threw the valve cover and its pointing down to the ground...

OK i just found something new out..my spark plug wire for the 3rd piston. the end that goes into the dizzy has alil cut in it would that make a diff on how my car runs?

is your ecu flashing 49 times, or did it flash 4 slow flashes, and 9 fast blinks?

Pull all your plugs out, are they damaged? what do they look like? are they white? or are they black?

How is your oil level. In order for vtec to work you need oil pressure, since your vtec isnt working it leads me to believe that you are low on oil. You said you cant rev past 4500 without it bogging, well if thats the case how can you even get into 5500k for vtec?

If you have blow by then your piston rings are fucked, go get a compression gauge, and do a compression test.

If the plugwire has a cut in it and it is arcing on something else then yes it will make a difference. Replace the plug wire and see what happens.
