i agree..it's trash. Get a vafc and you can tell what your air/fuel is and you can adjust it if necessary.

Um, no you can't. Adjust it yes, but it does not read wideband or display A/F.

And to answer your question...

Red wire to ignition with 5 amp in line fuse.

If it is the Cobalt face and it has a white wire, that splices into a 12v dash lighting source. like the radio illumination wire.

Black wire needs to go to a good ground.

And Violet wire splices into your o2 signal between the o2 connector, and the ECU.

well sorry ...i meant when it's tuned you can adjust the air fuel so you get the most hp and also to ensure that it is running not lean or rich. thanks for the correction....i should have been more specific so people can learn...

You still need a wideband to read it, just adjustig your fuel is bad without know what you're doing to the ratio.

Correct. A stock 02 sensor sees about 1/5 of the total spectrum. You need a wideband if you plan to actually use the guage to tune with.

I'll help make it easier. It is the off white wire at the ECU and is a little thicker than the rest. Do a search, been covered many times in more detail. I know I found how to hook mine up on here and it was super simple.

PLX devices makes a convertor that can make the Autometer gauge read so that it can actually be used, instead of jumping around.

So it comes with a new 02 sensor as well and a control box for the wideband? Reguardless of what the guage does, the stock 02 sensor reads on a scale of 0-1V. A true wideband reads from 0-5V (at least my TechEdge does). No matter what guage you use, you're still only reading 1/5 of the spectrum, and have very little idea how far out of the optimal condition you are. You could be at 12.0 and read full rich or be at 8.0 and be full rich (on that same guage). Unless you have a wideband you truly don't know where you're at and don't need to be tuning with it.

correct and when my car was dynoed and tuned ..the tuner had everything hooked up so they could read the air/fuel ratio and correcting it throughout the rpm range. I expect that most shops that have a dyno and if the do things like tune cars they have a way to monitor the air/fuel mixture through the rpm range. Correct me again if I'm wrong but when you tune your car isn't the main reason in doing so to give the motor more air and fuel but not run rich?....bolt on mods..then tune for more air fuel=more hp and ensuring that the car is running correctly.

Tuning is to get the motor to the correct A/F ratio.

http://www.plxdevices.com M300 I believe, comes with a wideband, harness and readout, and for $35 you can add hte convertor to use the autometer.

The link I posted is a good device, it is effective, not overpriced, and easy to install.

Also check out the TechEdge DIY models if you're looking to save some money and trust yourself with a soldering iron. I got mine prebuilt on here with everything you need to run it (including the 02 sensor, narrowband harness, control module, all wiring, and readout) for just under 300 dollars. That was for a pre-built one and you can build one yourself even cheaper.
Here is the TechEdge website:
