Ok.. Here is a strage one regarding my fuel gauge...
So again, I am a new Owener of a 1997 Civic LX.
The fuel gauge acts really funny. It seems to work (fills up to the top when their is gas and empties a I am driving).
The strange thing is when I make a long hard turn (like off a highway) to the right, the needle goes down as long as I am in the turn. When I make a similar turn to the left, the needle moves up... to what I think is the actual level...
What the heck can be making this happen? It is unerving when I have a quarter tank and make a turn and the needle goes to empty...
Would this be a fix I can do?
One more question, does my car have a low gas light? I haven't seen it come on yet and I understand some civics don't have one...
I looked at the archived posts and wonder if this will be the answer:
"Its common in pretty much all hondas. Our gas gauges are controlled by the tides and magical fairies. Not how much gas we have in our tanks. You're just going to have to learn to go off milage. "
Thanks!!!!!

That is the answer. Our gas gauges are much less than accurate. I would be pretty bold saying they are a guestomate of how much gas we actually have.
I'm pretty sure you have a gas light, but honestly if it ever comes on you have less than 1 gallon left. The gas light is like pretty much every other "warning" light in our cars... Idiot lights. They only come on in EXTREME low level conditions.

Thanks for the initial responses... My one concern would be when in that turn and the needle goes to empty, will my engine quit due to lack of fuel? ... or is it not a true indication...
Thanks!
Thanks!

when youre turning your gas moves away from the sending unit and it reads empty...i live on a hill and depending on which way i park the needle will go up or down. its just the gas sloshing around in the tank
