RSX type S is a decent new car. Not A WRX class car, but still quite good.

Yeah, my girlfriend bought one when they first came out and she already traded that piece of **** in...ask her if you want... They are nothing but junk, made cheaply and worst of all, they are slow!

How much are your parents spending?
03 WRX if they are giving you $24,000.
Used 02 WRX if they give you $18,000.
You could also check out the new Protege Mazdaspeed. They look promising.

Buy an older Prelude or Civic Si. The new WRX and others are nice but they are way to expesive. A knew Civic Ex is only like $14K for double that youcould buy a WRX or just fix the crap outta some older car.

depends on your budget.
15-20k: 02 SI. I like them and my buddy at Comptech talks about his all the time.
20-25k: WRX or RSX Type S leaning more towards the Acura because of the reliability and resale value. I honestly have no idea how the WRX will hold up after 30k, which is why I wouldn`t buy one.
25-30k: RX8
30-35: SVT Cobra
Few of the you said Supra, the upkeep and mods are a grip. I don`t think a kid could afford it, especially if he can`t work on his own car.

Re: ok forget the 03' civic what now (vtecvoodoo)
well true the resale valve of the acura may hold up.. but I have always followed WRX/Lancer and Skyline GTR test cars from AUTOCAR magazine in the past years.. all three cars always do great and never seem to have any major mechanical problems.. true the older WRX trannies couldn't hold torque..but the new STI version trannies are been built in house (sorry got off subject lets get back to the standard US WRX =p) but if u want reliable go honda.. I have known of a few NEW WRXs that had there PS fail on them.. talk about freak accidents but it happened and the RX8 looks need some work.. hey ryan u missed that RX-7 meet man down in irvine they had the concept model or actual RX8 there ..oh yeah why not the FORD FOCUS SVT I saw one get owned by the 110 FWY (Pasadena -L.A) smacked the wall probably taking one of the lovely sweepers to hard .. what about the Mazda Protege mazaspeed version...NEON SRT4 =p new si is good but would of been nice of honda to give it a tad more UMMPHH but u can drop in the new 2.4L I-VTEC engine from the accord EURO type R =P blah blah blah.. whatever u can afford
