Default ok fellas, I just can't seem to figure this out. (overheating.)

My buddy has a 94 dx automatic, ~ 95,xxx miles. His car started overheating the other day, so one by one we replaced the suspected culprits. Flushed the cooling system, new thermostat, new radiator cap, no leaks, no white smoke out the exaust, but the system does seem to be overflowing at the overflow resevoir cap. I was postitive this was the radiator cap, but no luck. The lower radiator hose does get warm after heat cycles so I know the thermostat works. The fan works and yes its blowing the correct way.

Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be???? My last hope is the radiator. Otherwise is there anyway that the water pump being out could cause overflow at the resevoir????

Edit - It idles perfect and runs perfect....which steers me away from the blown headgasket theory....but still possible I guess.

Check the sensors to make sure they are within the correct specs.

this might be a silly question but, could the radiator be cracked?
I believe Honda radiators are known to crack every now and then... mine did.

That can also be a sign of the headgasket is failing(common w/turbo cars). The failing gasket allows the cooling system to be come pressurized(sp?) and pushing the coolant into the overflow tank.
Same thing happened to my car.

did you bleed the air out when you refill the coolant? cause you might have air in the coolant system...

check the Head gasket.. I had the same exact problem... car would overheat.. coolant was perfect everything seemed fine... but once i changed out the HG, the car never overheated again.

yes, bleed the system like 2 or 3 times. I don't believe the radiator is cracked because there are no leaks anywhere. The car is completely stock. I guess it could be headgasket, but I figured there would be some white smoke.

What sensors do you want me to check? And what sensors would cause the overflow resevoir to bubble over?

what condition/age is the radiator in? The radiator (or even the block) could be scaled preventing proper heat transfer.

My girlfriend's 325is had similar problems. Coolant was overflowing/leaking, and she kept refilling it. When it became a long term problem, I asked her if she was doing a 50/50 collant/water mixture, she said no, I laughed, drained the coolant, flushed, and refilled with the proper mixture.

What coolant are you using?

Sounds like the head gasket to me. THis happened to me, but there was no smoke. Do a compression check

look for streams of bubbles in the overflow tank with the tube submerged and engine warmed up. bubbles = blown gasket.
