The ECU needs the signal from the oil pressure sensor to properly activate VTEC. You can fabricate a "T" that allows you to run the sensor, and mechanical gauge

If I leave the stock oil pressure sensor unplugged will the oil light always be on?

I took my dummy light off and my VTEC activates with no problem. I did a T for my oil feed line and Oil pressure gauge.

No. And actually it never will be on either.

You guys are talking about the oil sensor thats on the back of the block next to the oil filter right? If not then im a dumbass and my post means nothing to no one.

^ is correct.

And VTEC will still work properly with or without the sensor

So the point of the oil sensor on the car is? My only guess is to let the driver know if his car is out of oil which will pretty much give him a minute warning that his **** is gonna blow up.??

You are correct sir. Thats why people call it the dummy light. It gives you about 30 seconds (according to my old highskool autoshop teacher) before you lose your motor. Just enough time to pull to the shoulder.

Not even. I spun a bearing because I had cracked ring lands and was slowly burning oil until I had none left. My car started acting funny then a minute later I heard a clank and then a constant knocking sound. I pulled over to the shoulder and as I was rolling to a stop the fuggen oil light comes on!

So now after I rebuilt my motor, Im installing an oil pressure gauge. And I thought to myself whats the point of installing a T fitting so I can hook up two oil pressure sensors when one of them is totally useless? The only reason I wanted the stock one hooked up is so the damn light wouldn't come on but it sounds like that doesnt happen so no need to even have the stock sensor in place.

No pressure sensor=no VTEC

The oil sensor behind the block just activates the dummy light to tell you when your out of oil. The VTEC oil pressure switch is something else and somewhere else. Why cant people understand that?

I agree with that but if the light comes on it does trigger limp mode and a CEL.

Hmm.... well my look on when the oil light comes on while driving is that your fucked, because the light should only come on when your low on oil or your out.

Normally Id agree with you as the one time I damaged something in my motor the oil light didn't even come on until the damage was done and the car was stopped.

But there have been 3-5 other times over the years and across multiple Hondas where the light came on. Engine stopped within 30-60 secs, oil added, and no damage was done.

Would I trust it to avoid disaster? Absolutely not! Im just saying sometimes it actually works as designed.

I thought if you removed the sensor your light would just be on? Someone said it wouldn't and I wanted to clarify.

And in my truck I would know it was time for oil when the oil light would come on around corners and such. 200k miles and still ticking. I wouldn't recomend it but I didn't care about it, if it blew it was all the more reason to do a 13b rotary swap.
