Oil poured into the gas tank. How can we get this out?
Car just cut off and cannot restart it.
Please don't ask how this fool accidentally poured oil in the gas tank.

There's a drain bolt on the bottom of the tank. Then purge the fuel lines and make sure to replace the fuel filter. You may need to clean the injectors as well.

Thank you for your reply. We will try this. This is my friends 2002 Honda Civic, I just posted here cause this is where I hang out and I knew that somebody would have an answer.

The advice that you gave me, will this be applicable for even the 2002 Honda Civic?

Yes it should be. There should always be a drain bolt on the bottom of the tank so it can be drained before it is removed. It's also there to help out in unfortunate situations The hard part is finding a good place to drain it. There's not alot of room under there and if it's on a full tank you have 10+ gallons of fuel to worry about.

edit: by place I mean shop/freind with a lift NOT on the ground. Just be ready to get messy and have a couple of 5 gallon buckets to put the gas in. Use an oil drain pan under the car to catch the fuel.

I've never hears of this happening before, so this is just a hypothesis BUT....

My concern is that the car stopped running. That would indicate that the oil actually made it all the way to the combustion chamber. Now the cylinders are filled, or at least coated, with a heavy, non-flammable liquid. It may be a real challenge to get this thing restarted.

Jimmy L says the injectors need to be cleaned. How can you clean them effectively when they're closed?

RC Engineering can clean injectors for like $40 a set.

don't forget to rotate the air in the tires. they tend to get dirty after 3000 miles or so.

Draining the gas... waste of gas money... Then again, it's better than having the car fixed for a lotta money.

Lubrication is good.
Motor oils are designed to not be flammable, and the viscosity is too high. Fuels need to have "lubricity", but this needs to be from a "top cylinder" oil, and not 5w-30. This may have fouled the combustion chamber massively, and might require tons of work to clean it out.

We fixed the CAR!!!
Drained the tank
Put 1.5 gallons of gas and injector cleaner fluid in
Removed the fuel rail and the injectors
turned the key to the 3rd position and then back off for about 5 times. This sucked the injector cleaner through and cleaned the fuel line and rail.
Put the injectors back in and turned the key to the 3rd position and then back off for about 5 times, this pumped the oil out of the fuel line, rail and injectors.

Reconnected everything and it started right up.
THank everybody.
