Default Oil Pan question on Y8

So my friend bought a 94 EX with a D16y8 swap in it for cheap, we've been fixing the tons of mistakes the last guy made and when we changed the oil the dipstick broke off in the oil pan.

So we pull the oil pan and find several broken dipsticks and scratch marks on the pan from where its been hitting. We also notice the oil pan is bent on the crank pulley side. We bought a new gasket and when installing it, it didnt quite fit well. We put it up to the block anyways and on the outside gasket I see BBH22A, also the oil pan was not a correct match some bolt holes were completely misaligned.

So in conclusion my question is, was this kid really running a H22 oil pan on a Y8??

Also are Y7 and Y8 oil pans interchangable I know the block are of the same design but I'm not 100 percent.

The only difference between the oil pans is that the Y8 oil pan is aluminum and the Y7 pan is not. The pickups should be interchangeable as well.

Identical is probably the word you should have used. I checked part numbers on them a while back, they're the same.

Also, I would use a Y7 pan. It's all too common to pull the threads out of the aluminum pan where the drain bolt goes, or hit something and crack it.

Make sure you get a Y7 pan gasket too since they're different because of the different pan.

he says it started as a nick near the oil drain after hitting a bad area..

He jacked it up to look, saw a small crack.. tried to get it near a shop, and then he says the whole thing just came apart..

Road construction and being ricer slammed was the main culprit..

Edit: 2 of many reasons why i wont go "ricer low"

Yeah a lot of my friends have there cars slammed I try to keep mine atleast 2 fingers maybe a bit less. Yeah low looks cool and all but its just not worth destroying my car.

Anyways I think I'm going with a y8 pan just cause I can get one used for the cheap. the kid im getting it from was asking 200 LOL, he said they are 300+ new cause thats what he payed for his. I was laughing so hard I sent him links to advance auto and to OEM honda parts, advance wanted like 90 dollars and an OEM Y8 pan was 189. Anyways we settled on 30 delivered.
