Default Oil Pan leak at drain plug

My oil leaks at the drain plug even with new crush washers. What have you guys done to prevent this - besides new oil pan?

You can also try using some of the ligued silicone gasket maker around the washers as well.

It's not needed whe using new crush washers. Hell, I've been on the same crush washer for the past 3 oil changes, no leak.

Are you tightening the bolt to the proper torque rating?

hehe, yea, I know how to tighten a bolt. I've done more complicated things.

I guess the question should be... did you use a torque wrench when you put the drain plug back in? if so, what did you torque it to?

I'm not saying you don't know how to. But, maybe you are leaving it a little loose. So, when the heat expands and contracts the metal, it'll leak.

Try a new bolt ? Pan threads are stripped ? Also it may not make a difference but look real close at each side of a new (Honda) crush washer. One side has a rougher finish. I always put that side out.

This was happening to me, or so I thought. It turned out to be a cracked/bad gasket so I just replaced that and I was golden.

I would say try a new bolt. I'm guessing the bolt itself is warped in some way which isn't easily visible to the human eye.

The oil pan gasket is new.

I never knew there was a different finish on each side of the washer tho.

oil pan drain plug seat may be warped from over torquing or threads stripped. have you checked either? does the drain plug tighten up like it should?
