Oil pan gasket
I just changed my oil pan gasket. How long does the Hondabond need to set before I can fill up the oil and put the engine back into service ?

Re: Oil pan gasket
OK cool. I thouht you had to wait. The Hondabond says it takes 16 hours to set all the way. I dont want to end up with any leaks or have some of it drip of and clog up my pickup or anything.

Re: Oil pan gasket
just let it run and get warmed up then lift it up and check for leaks, if no leaks drive it around the block and check again, you should be fine though

Re: Oil pan gasket
silicone does help adhesion if you are woried about it. I'm not sure about honda's but some manufacturers recommend using silicone to help seal the pan to the block. so it does help prevent leaks in cases of gasket failure

Re: Oil pan gasket
I used a light coat of hondabond on both sides of the gasket. I put a little bit more in some places due to an issue wit the oil pan. It is a used Moroso pan that I picked up off someone here on HT and the damn thing was bent from being torqed down too tight or dropped or something. The first time I put it on I didnt think to check that and it leaked. Pulled it off an bent it back as best I could. Thats why I went a little heavy with the Hondabond in a few spots. No leaks now though.
