Default oil leaking from rear, by driver side axle (alot)?? info inside 92 hatch b16 swap.

engine. jdm b16 swap

Well its not as simple as I first put it. After a quick 1 min drive around the block. If I park and look under she is just dripping. If I jack it up and try to get a good look at where. It seems to be comming from exactly where the driver side axle goes into the tranny. Its all AROUND THERE. It doesnt seem to be comming from above as all around the head is dry. It has more of a burnt smell to me assuming then that it is oil and not from the tranny, but then again its weird as its all comming from exactly around the axle, Or it is building up there. It then ofcousrse as you drive gets all over the shifter linkage and then everywhere :S FAWK!

I know with my other hatch, My yellow bomb it was a rear main I had to replace but i never gathered around the axle at all.

What do you guys think this could be as ITS DRIVING ME ****** NUTS! HUGE puddles anywhere I go or anytime I stop the car.

check your speedo sensor...could be leaking down in that area(theres a seal around it). can be your drivers side axle seal or shift rod seal. pretty much look all around for a leak on top side and work yourself down.

Completely clean the area that oil is collecting then take it for a spin. When you get back trace the leak on the newly cleaned section to help identify where the leak is coming from.

I knnow, I have to get to a shop and get it on a hoist, clean it and then run it, Its VERY hard to drive it, even if clean and then have a look as the car's momentium makes that **** go everywhere.

To above, Cant be speedo sensor, wont be shifter related as its from above that.

If the oil is coming out from where the axle meets the tranny than it's most likely an axle seal...

At least it's easy to replace...

Yes, just spend another 15 mins outside, Boss let me out to go clean it and test it and then jack it and then look at it.

I took a bit of oil and i can smell the fuel mixed with the oil where as the fluid by the axle itself WHILE LOOKS THE SANE doesnt have the same smell almost assuring me its fron the axle seal.

This makes me much happier seeing I though it would be the rear main but at same time, ther eis NO WAY it wold leak that bad in a matter of 1 min of driving where as the axle seal would cause it to flow hard.

Ill re post after seal is fixed and let you know.

thanks guys!

I have a similar problem with a leak on the passenger side of the tranny. I already replaced the axle seal and its still leaking. Its not the shifter rod either so I am lost at this point. I broke an axle on the side not too long ago and I just hope the piece that was flying around in there didn't crack the case.

Not until I am SURE where the leak is coming from. If it is a crack in the case then I need to know exactly where its source is so I can get it welded. If it wasn't a CTR tranny, I suppose I could just a new one and be done.
