Degrease your engine bay and it'll be easy to spot. Some common leak spots are the valve cover gasket and vtec solenoid gasket. But I'd recommend degreasing the engine bay and then waiting to see where the oil is leaking from so you're not wasting your time.

I got a can of "GUNK Engine Degreaser" from Auto Part store, Do I have to cover up rubber/wires before spray it on?

I tried to wipes the oil pan with a rag clean and it appear to be coming from back of the block and spill down to the left and right side of the engine.

Also there's an important sequence in doing the oil pan bolts.
OP, hopefully you installed the oil pan gasket correctly or else it's bound to leak again.

Cover your battery, distributor, and air filter (you should be okay if you have a stock air intake). There's DIYs on engine degreasing on here. Search up. Do it on a warm (not hot) engine. As far as the gunk engine degreaser you bought, I'd use what other people recommend in the thread you find about degreasing your engine bay.

I put the liquid gasket and tight it down to spec in sequence as it appear to be in the service manual

i dont use that gunk stuff.

I put down a pan underneath and spray down with brake clean.

If i were doing the whole bay, i use a parts brush and plain gojo hand cleaner on painted surfaces.

Then i come back and wipe everything with acetone. Once everything is clean, grab a can of clearcoat and try to tape off as much as possible and clear the uncleared painted surfaces. This will help future dirt not staining the unprotected paint.

Again, this isnt the best idea, but works for me

It might be the rear main seal. Does the top of the engine seem dry since you did the dizzy o ring?

Looks like oil on the belt side, that can be a cam seal I believe.

The oil leak in dizzy is now fixed no more leak. But it still leaking somewhere, when i pull the clutch cover off it seen dry. Don't know where it coming from.

I'm gonna try to put UV Dye in the oil and go to home depot get a black compact light to see where it leaking.

Thank

With looking at your pictures, It would be hard to guess... You've got oil/gease all over the place.

I have a 99 EX with the exact same problem that I am dealing with right now. Just changed out the oil pan gasket and rocker arm cover gasket this past weekend and it's STILL leaking!! I feel your pain!! My engine has 241K on it so geez it's barely broken in for a Honda, right?

I haven't replaced my dizzy gasket yet, I guess that'll be next. I'm REALLY hoping it's not the rear main seal because I am NOT in the mood to yank my trans right now.

new member here and new owner of a 97 civi ex coupe. purchased over this last weekend. i have replaced the dizzy o ring, valve cover gasket set, and VTEC solenoid seals. if your leak is coming from the passengers side of the motor it's most likely VTEC solenoid seals or rear main seal. There are two seals for the solenoid. One with the screen goes between the solenoid and the side of the head and the other goes on top. the one that goes on top is not in the dealer computers, they have to look in the book(had to go through two dealers to find this out). chances are if the dizzy o ring was bad the solenoid seals are also bad. Mine where like hard brittle plastic.

unfortunately i still have a leak so i'll be replacing the oil pan gasket this weekend. seems like all the gaskets and seals dry out around the same time!

This

clean everything.. drive around then pinpoint where its coming from..

you can also use baby power on the suspect areas to try and find the source of the leak

Hi everyone,
Today, I put the UV oil dye into the oil and the leak show up very well. But my camera don't want to see UV so I have to manually redraw it on pics for you guy

It look like leak from dizzy if fixed but my rear main is seen leaking very bad, and leaking somewhere in timing cover too

You don't need a lift to do anything.

All you need is the proper tools, and a buddy or 2.

You will need a the basics, rachets, wrenchs, breaker bar, torque wrench. etc.
Having an assortment of tools at your disposal will deffinetly help

You don't need to replace the clutch, just give it a good cleaning with brake klean. You could replace it, if you thinks it needed.

The front is different. You must remove the timing belt, to gain access to the main seal, which requires removal of many other things.

Also, I belive you have to remove the cam to do the cam seal.

any used car this old will have some sort of issues whether the previous owner knew about them or not. if it's a clean low miles civic and all you have is a few oil leaks to fix then i think you did pretty good. i paid 2600 for mine with 112,000 miles on the clock and am dealing with the same thing. i think i did okay especially since it's hard to find a civic in miami that doesn't have a backyard frankenstein swap with no a/c and no power streering and a coffee can exhaust that makes it sound like it's going 120mph when it's doing 30mph!
