Default Oil control orifice....LS/VTEC..h23a/vtec ??? hmm to remove or not to remove?

During a recent h23a/vtec build, one of the major things you have to before adding the head is remove the "oil control orifice"(lil plug/oring that blocks an oil passage) from the NON-VTEC block. According ot the tech article we used, not removing the orifice would block oil for vtec, or something. I asked my self how come you don;t run an external oil feed line for an H23A/VTEC like you do an LS/VTEC? I recently pulled the head off my LS/VTEC engine and there it was an oil control orifice still in the block....

the question is: Why do we not remove the "oil control orifice" on the bseries non/vtec to vtec engines???

Because the Vtec oil does not feed through that passage on a B series engine. I'm no H series engine expert but it may be different???
That passage on a B series controls oil flow to the cylinder head and camshafts. Not the Vtec system. The Vtec system is usually fead though a separate port to the right side of the block in Vtec engines. The non-Vtec blocks do not have this secondary passage so the external line is needed.

Leaving that control orifice out would allow too much oil into the cylinder head, pooling high quantities of engine oil in the upper end rather than staying in the oil sump. I would not remove the control orifice on a B series engine.

well that shines some light on it, but...if the passage was soupposed to be permantley block it owuld have the removable "orrifce" would it. I know the vetc oil feed close to the solenoid cause i hade to tap and plug mine off for my LS/VTEC. I need to look at my old b16 block and see if the passage was blocked off, cause i have only noticed it on my NON-VTEC B18.... which runs with the passage plugged just like the h23 but once we builkt the h23a/vtec we had to unplugg it....maybe since the b18 are so inferior(vtec press, higher loads etc...) it doesn' need the x-tra oil like the b16/ does...something for the mind....?

more feedback/info please

don't block the oil feed orifice near the center of the block/intake side and don;t remove the orifice either. You need that to supply oil to the camshafts. basically just leave the same as when you removed the non-Vtec cylinder head.

......and I don't think B18b's are inferior, that is just a point of view

but what if my b16a motor had no block (orrifice) but the b18 does? I mean it is supplying oil to the head for a reason??????
