Default Oil Change after 7 months?

I swapped in a GSR motor and its running MOBIL 1 synthetic with about 1500 miles on it but I just got back from deployment after 7 months. Should I change the oil out or am I good to go for another 1500? The oil still has a browinish clear color to it.

It hasnt been in the bottle its been in my engine for 7 months and has about 1500 miles on it. Just wondering cuz they say to change oil after a certain time period but I dont know if thats just a gimmick so people spend more money changing it more often.

you dont have to change it. but oil does get contaminated in your engine as it runs and letting it sit may allow for time for bad things to happen they say 3500 OR 3 months

Well first of all it's 3500 or 4 months, not 3 I believe.

And second of all you guys realize he's talking about synthetic oil right? Changing that every 3500/4months is a little bit ridiculous... Unless you have some insane setup, I would change synthetic every 5000-6000 or a year...

you shouldnt go any longer than 5K at the most regardless of oil type. also use hondas method when it comes to cleaners or flushing, don't [freak] with it. leave it be.

5000-6000 miles with syntheic oil? DANG!!! I use royal purple and I change mines every 4000km(jdm cluster). I thinks 4800km is equal to 3000miles.
Hmmm. . .

Change it!

There all all sorts of Mobil 1 motor oils on the market today, and it's probably got the regular ol' neutered (de-balled) version in there anyway - with most of the zinc removed (for use in 2007-up cars).

What you need is either Mobil 1 "High Mileage" (for pre-2007 cars) or Mobil 1 TDT (Turbo Diesel Truck) oil! They have the most zinc & high pressure additives of any Mobil 1 motor oil on the market. All the rest suck - and you can thank the government for that!

Personally, I prefer Mobil 1 10W/30 "High Mileage" oil, but Mobil 1 5W/40 TDT will do the trick too...

I know you Honda guys are hardcore about the oil changes but I'm not sure why..

Cars that run synthetic oil from the factory have oil change intervals set at like 12k miles. (BMWs and Benzes etc). Now that's a bit high IMO, but you should do some research (with oil analysis etc) and decide for yourself. But synthetic oil does last MUCH longer..

My mom drives a 2006 lexus is250 and from the factory, her oil change intervals are 5k miles with dino oil! I put synthetic in it and change it every 6000 or so which is really way more than necessary but why not right

That guy above doesn't speak for me!

He's probably *smart* to change his oil every 3000 miles 'cause Royal Purple is great at advertising, but their oil products ain't so hot, you know?

Personally, I change my Mobil 1 every 7500-10000 miles (Honda recommends 7500 mi for dino oil), but I mostly do that because of the crappy little 'teacup' filters you gotta run on these things.

LoL!

I've been thinking about installing a remote oil filter setup - and putting a REAL oil filter on my B16 - but I never seem to get around to it...

Do you change your filter every 5k though or no?

Because this thread sparked my interested to read more about this, and I noticed that the guys on clublexus that do 10k+ oil changes change their filter every 5k usually. I'm not sure if this is necessary and if it's a good idea or not, and would like to learn more about it if anyone has anymore info.

Here is a thread http://www.clublexus.com/forum...82723 on clublexus about oil changes, when you get to post #10 there is a link to another thread with the oil analysis, that one is very interesting too.

No!

My ride sits 4-inches off the ground, and I don't have a low-profile jack. I gotta pick it up from the side using the emergency tire scissor jack, so I can get my hydraulic jack under the front - then I gotta do this in reverse when lowering it back down. It's a royal PITA!

If I'm going to the trouble of crawling under my car, I might as well yank the drain plug too.

I've been running Purolator PureONE filters for years, and they're very well built - don't have to worry about them coming apart internally (not glued together like Fram filters, for instance) - but they don't have a lot of filter area, like all Honda 'teacup' filters, sooo... caveat emptor!

I'll go over and read that link after I post this, but...

I've read a LOT of posts by ppl that have their oil analyzed, and there is usually a spike in the amount of metal in the oil immediately after doing an oil change!

This has lead some ppl to believe that changing your oil too soon and too often is actually bad for an engine - but, I *think* that's a stretch.

It certainly doesn't hurt anything to go with the manufacturer's recommendation, and like I said - that's 7500 miles for my motor with dino oil.

Having said that, 7500 doesn't equal 10000 - that's practically a trip across the country (on dirty oil) - so, I guess I'm fudging a little...

EDIT

Did you notice those crappy numbers on the zinc in the tests - in the 600's & 700's? That's regular Mobil 1 motor oil for you!

Mobil 1 "High Mileage" & TDT would be in the 1100-range!

LoL!

Maybe someone should tell them...

I've been using royal purple for about a whole year now sine I blew my first motor and it works great for me. But maybe I should try mobil 1 and see how it runs in my car. And mobil 1 is cheaper so well see.

Its not that it got dirty its that its not been sealed in a container its been siting in you engine 7 months and it loses its protection layers and some crap in it and will not protect your engine to well. Thats why they say change you oil every 3000 miles OR 3 Month WHICH EVER COMES FIRST. Which means 100miles on your oil and 4 months later you WILL need to chnage it because 3 months came first. So just Change it not like its hard and expensive.
