Anyone who told you synthetic will make your car run faster is a bald-faced liar. Synthetic simply provides more protection for your engine, but is not necessarily the best thing ever. What oil you use comes down to preference. Synthetic just costs more.

As far as your timing, put on a timing light and see if your timing is off, and if it is, put them back to 0.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA

Yeah, if you run fully synth in your engine, it will add more than 30WHP...

Then, if you buy the oil that has RACING (or just R) stamp on it, it will add aditional 20WHP...

And if you change it every 1000 miles like you should, you will gain additional 50WHP...

So, here's the formula:
- get some BADAZZZ REISING OIL and it must have at least red "R" stamped
- do not buy oil below 20$ a quart
- change it every 1000 miles

and you will have extra 100WHP...

No turbo or SC will give you that much instant power

Now for real...

Oil has nothing to do with how fast your car goes...

If you have money, go FULL SYNTH

if you have no money, go SEMI SYNTH

That simple...

Everything you need to worry about is to CHANGE IT REGULARLY (3000-5000 miles depending on driving conditions)

And don't forget to change the filter aswell

Maybe my brain is not working right, but what affect would adjusting the cam gears (and thus, cam timing) by 1 degree have on ignition timing??

Yeah, I get that. But how would checking the timing with a light have anything to do with where his cam gears are set?? I timing light checks ignition timing and cam gears adjust cam timing. I don't see the correlation that you are refering to.
