Default Oem vs. Aftermarket

Ok so wrecked my car into a brick mail-box a while back, and i'm still looking to fix it up. What I'm wondering is what do yall think would be a better investment. All oem parts and bring the car back to stock. Or should I go a little bit cheaper and go with aftermarket parts??? Let me know what you think. Its a 1994 Civic lx Sedan. It's got some suspension problems and needs a little bit of body work. It need a new Front right fender, and front passenger door.

Everybody'll tell ya that you need to go with OEM parts but that's just not true .

On Bimmers, Benz's, MKIV+ VW's, etc. (tight tolerancing in parts) aftermarket parts fit like ****, they never fit right, the holes never line up, etc.

For 5th and 6th generation civics, '92-'01 'tegs?? They fit 100%.

Though again, it depends on what company you buy from. There's a company out of Jersey called POY where you can get a lot of cheap "OEM Like" parts that'll fit civics, tegs, camrys, etc. like OEM, but hella cheaper. Though not all aftermarket parts are like that, some actually have trouble fitting (the lesser companies).

Go with a good name in the supplier of aftermarket "OEM Style" parts and they'll fit fine.

As long as you buy from a reputable aftermarket OEM Style body parts company, it'll fit fine.

As for the door, I'd go to a junkyard for that, you can usually find a door in a junkyard that's not damaged.

Just buy some cheap parts. Once the car's been wrecked, it will never be the same again. Nothing is going to line up perfectly whether you use oem or taiwan parts.

You could take it to a body shop that has a good frame straightening machine, but it's probably cheaper to just buy another car. I have yet to find a good, trustworthy body shop.

if your going to buy an oem door at the junk yard. im sure the oem fender sitting right next to it isnt going to cost alot.. but of course if u buy an aftermarket door and fender your set.

So the body is pretty much junkyard parts. But what about the suspension??? Pretty much the whole front right suspension needs to be fixed. Sway bars bent, front right Lower Control arm is bent. And I dont know if the axles broken or if the transmission casing is cracked, but the axle shakes. Aftermarket or oem???

If your axle was broken, you wouldn't be able to drive the car.

I've heard of some issues with the Certifit front bumper fitment, but the fenders are fine.

I'd just source used parts from the junkyard though.

My whole front (bumper, fenders, lights, and hood) are all aftermarket and they fit fine. My rear bumper is also aftermarket.

Only gap problem is my charge piping is pushing on the bumper a little, making a gap between the bottom of the headlights. But everything else is perfect!

Be wary of aftermarket hoods. I have hone on my EM1 from Seibon and it fits like ****, it's almost 1/2" too long and looks goofy.

Otherwise, for the most part, aftermarket stuff is fine.

Get aftermarket if you can. I've replace several on many hondas and never had a fitment issue. Its up to you if you got the $$ though. Good luck.

Also search http://www.craigslist.com. You can find alot of used OEM parts for cheap. Just make sure you select your local region unless you want to have parts shipped.

Or.. hmm... duh... How about Honda-techs Marketplace lots of good shizz there!!

Online classifieds!!!

Good Luck!!

If you want to retain value keep it OEM.

Few buyers would even think that the parts aren't OEM. Few buyers would even think there was any replacement at all.
