Default oem headlights not working on lowbeam

The highs work, the lows don't. i replaced the switch, but it burnt shortly afterwards. Is this a common problem in the 99-00 civics? i have a 99 ex, oem fogs. there are aftermarket gauge faces in it, but everything was fine for 90k miles. the wires in the column get warm when the brights or parking lights are on. is there an easy solution to this problem without pulling the dash?

thanks in advance
tommy

Do you have OEM headlight bulbs? Are the foglights wired into the same circuit? The circuit is overloaded. What amperage fuses are installed in the circuit.

They are piaa bulbs, oem wattages, and all wired from factory or dealer. The fuses are the amperage that is on the fuse label. They worked fine without issue for 90k miles

Not sure. My guess would be a short in the Red/Wht wire between the switch and dash fuse box or in dash fuse box itself.

Had a similar problem it was the daylight running light relay. AKA DRL relay.
Not sure if the DRL relay not working would knock out the high beam lights as well, I don't remember?
Try that route if nothing else.
