OEM Bumper
Hey all,
Im trying to get a new OEM front bumper for my 97 in white. The problem is that it looks like most sites including honda sell the bumper in flat black. Is there anywhere I can buy an OEM bumper already painted to OEM standards because my bumper is messed up and I want to put a new lip on a new bumper? Thanks!

Re: OEM Bumper (rugimpy)
they're places on ebay that do it, but it is ebay. Im not knocking them, i buy car parts there all the time. Just read there feed-back. Also paint isnt that much, i bought a pint of dupont northstar white for my old dsm for like $28 i think. Call around to your local body shops.

Yea I know paint isnt much, but Ive never painted before and I really want it to be OEM quality. I was really hoping you could buy a bumper prepainted.

Sorry, just dont happen that way. If you want it done cheap/cheaper than a local shop, you could check your local high school auto body program and get them to do it.

Check this out, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem . Has pretty good feedback as well, and have icar certified painters, and they have to have your paint code so they look ok to me. And they only have 1 negative response in the last year out of like 16,000 transactions. Might be worth your while.

You could also call your Honda dealer to find out who their local body shop for authorized warranty work is. Maybe it'll give you a little more peace of mind when it comes to the quality of the job.

Yea, Ive bought a painted spoiler off of ebay before and the paint job was really nice. My only question with the bumper would be should I worry about fitment since it is not OEM?

Yes, if it's not OEM always worry about fitment. When I bought my Civic I took the front bumper off, but then it wouldn't go back on! That's when I started noticing extra screw holes and also could not find any part number or Honda insignia on it. I'll soon be replacing it with an OEM part.

Re: (rugimpy)
i wouldnt think so, thats part of how the seller get a good rep. is having parts that fit. Just make sure its good seller and i think you should be fine. I bought a bumper that im pretty sure was non-oem for my old dsm and it fit just fine.

Honda never sold pre-painted bumpers separately from the cars.
My front bumper is painted aftermarket by a friend of mine (I'd say more than 50% of '96-'00 Civics have repainted front bumpers by now). It cost me $300 to get my front bumper, front lip, rear lip, driver's sideskirt and front grille shell repainted. And none of it looks any different from the rest of the car. My paint is more difficult to match than yours since mine is a tricoat (Milano Red). He even repainted when it was slightly lighter than the rest of the car (he hadn't had the car to compare the new paint to).
Even if you find one pre-painted, unless it's from a Civic that never had it's front bumper repainted (which many do when they come in as used cars), it won't be OEM paint either. Even when Honda has bumpers repainted at the dealership, they're done on site by a hired person from a local business.
I'd say find a used bumper (or your own if it's in good enough condition) and have it repainted as you want it. It shouldn't cost that much and if it costs more for supplies and they'd have extra paint, perhaps you can get some other parts touched up (mirrors, sideskirts, grille, door handles, side molding, plate garnish, lip, etc).

Thanks NOFX, im thinking thats what im gonna do. Im probably going to just repaint my front bumper I have now. its not in the worst condition. I'll also do the rear lip and maybe the side skirts again. I might wanna keep the Sir lip black though.

Yes, the OEM front under spoiler is meant to stay black. Some people paint match them, but that's not how they ever came from Honda (on a car I mean - lots of parts come unpainted if ordered separately).
Oh, and the "SiR" lip, I've decided to start calling the front under spoiler because it was not just for SiR models and it was even available in the US (all out of stock and discontinued here though).
