odomoter - searched
i know it has been covered before...but i cant seem to find anything 96-00 civic specific...i just got a used cluster than im going to swap into my 98 dx...i just want to match the mileage to be correct (not trying to roll it back so i can sell it with less miles).. like i said i searched and couldnt find anything specific to my car...any help would be appreciated...pm me if you dont really want to let the world wide web know how to roll back their mileage.

bleh...it wouldnt match..how would i change the mileage...because the cluster i got is in kilometers so i would have to convert my mileage to kilometers and then change it.

no no...i dont want to swap the speedometer/odometer's... it wouldnt match on the new one....and i want to keep the kilometers...just because its different...but thanks for the help....can anyone tell me how to change the odometer?

I supposed you bought an SiR cluster. Anyways, get like a sticker or something. Write down the mileages of both clusters. When you sell your car, figure out the difference in mileage on the KMH odo, convert it, and add it to the MPH odo. This is what I am doing right now. Oh, the sticker goes in the glove box.

i rolled mine (eg) back a bit today, just for giggles (i'm never selling it, so it wasnt for that reason). What i did was pull the speed/odo out of the cluster, removed the circuit board, then removed the stepper motor that drives the odo. Then - the fun part - i ran a dremel wheel against the main odo gear (not the trip odo) and ran the digits backwards.
Another thing you could try, if you have the skills, and dont want to risk breaking your gauge, is wire it up to roll forward at a very fast speed. You need 3 wires for this: +12v, Ground, and a +5v VSS pulse (could use a serial, parallel, or usb cable with some homebrew hack code to generate the VSS). It takes about 17 pulses per sec to simulate 60mph, so you could probably pulse the hell out of it on a PC & roll it to your desired km-age in no time. Since you are converting Mi to Km, you'll want to roll forwards anyway.
