you can do either. Pulling the needles is not a problem. just use a fork and pry on it like you would a nail. The hard part is recalibrating it. You can either look for one of those roadside radar things with the speed display to sync it. or you can use a gear calculator to estimate the RPM and speed in a particular gear. Set the cruise control in 5th at a particular RPM and set the needle to the corresponding speed. Or you can reset the odometer to the correct value. I've never seen a 96+ odometer but all you really need to do is slide the little washer holding the odometer numbers together and reset the numbers to your mileage and then push the washer back. I've seen different types of odometers so they may be different. And, no I don't know this from rolling back odometers. I've put a couple JDM clusters in my cars and had to sync the odometers.

If you plan on reselling your car, then the miles hurt. If you plan on keeping it for a long time then you will be fine. There are people on this site who have a boat load more miles than you on there rides.....00 HX (Will hit 38,000 on the way home today).

just to let you know... don't pull off the needles on the cluster, they will break and you can't put them back on.

very fragile to do that! i tried it once on my old cluster just to practice, and those suckers broke! i guess i wasn't meant to be a brain surgeon after all!
