Default Odd knocking noise.... Any ideas appreciated..

This is not my car, but i am really making a post for my brother. His engine (B18C Type-r) has out of the blue started making this knock. It sounds like the knock is coming for the top of the motor.

He tried adjusting the valves (which were off) but that did nothing. Today he was messing around and unplugged the map(I have no idea why..). I know that when you unplug the map the car runs like ****, but it still runs. And with the MAP disconnected, the knock was gone. Obviously when we restarted the car the knock reappeared. So that royally confuses me. If you guys have any ideas to what it could be, it would really help us out.

I have a video here, hopefully it works. if it doesn't, let me know.

Thanks tons
-John

EDIT: Car runs perfectly fine, but common sense tells me that running a car with a noise like this cant be good.

sounds like a Rod but as you say it's up top make me think cracked piston. depending on the crack you can have good compresion and still be cracked.

Cracked pistons are often the source of noise.

The noise is sometimes higher pitched than a crank related noise and could be confused with a valve train noise.
Cracked pistons are often the result of a broken timing chain or improper valve timing, which can allow a valve to strike a piston on some engines.

Get a stethoscope and isolate it to specific cylinders.
Do you have any CEL's?
There was recently a post about faulty/old/shitty LMA's, dig that up and read through it, it may yield some results
