OBD2 P2P ecu with an OBD2 JDM D15B VTEC engine?
Hey guys,
I'm thinking this will work, but before I go and buy the parts I would like confirmation from the Honda gurus.
I have a 2000 hatch with the stock D16Y7, and would like to buy an OBD2 D15B from TigerJapanese (I live local so I can hand-choose what I want).
If I buy an OBD2B D16Y8 engine harness and P2P ECU, everything will work fine, right?
Thanks in advance

The P2P is the EX ECU, right? It will only actuate one VTEC solenoid. The problem is that the OBD2 D15B has two solenoids. You'll either need the special ECU from Japan, a VTEC controller or something similar, or keep one actuated all the time to always keep it in 16 valve mode.
Or, you could swap a Y8 head on and make it easier, but then you're defeating the purpose of buying a Jap engine...
Running a 1.5 liter off a ECU meant for a 1.6 could make you run rich. Ideally I'd say to convert to OBD1 and run a PO8 or P28, chipped and scale the injectors down or something to compensate.

Thanks for answering man, I was starting to lose hope!
Yeah, the P2P is meant for a D16Y8. I didn't know all OBD2 D15B VTECs were 3-stage...it certainly doesn't say that on Tiger's website...I was kind of assuming it was an OBD2 version of the 92-95 D15B VTEC.

Okay, well even if the ECU doesn't work for this setup, can I use the engine harness for an OBD2B D16Y8 with this engine? Are all the plugs the same?

i have the swap that your talking about, and it would be your best bet to find the JDM ECU, which is P2J for the D15B.
it's better the run both actuators then have one open constantly, its just wasted power.
and yes, all d-series obd2 harnesses match up, theres nothing different except for the 2 acuator solenoids on the d15b.
you could always mod the harness, find the right schematic and run the correct wiring to the solenoids.

Okay, thanks.
So without the P2J ecu, it isn't possible to run both solenoids, correct? Even running a chipped OBD1 ecu?
I've called several local Japanese suppliers, and only one actually have the P2J ECU for a manual transmission and it is $250!
Maybe running an OBD1 D15B is a better option...but then I will need a Z6 harness and ECU...the costs keep growing!

well you can, i read on another thread where a guy wanted to drop a d15b into an 88 crx. he went in a just fabricated a switch that was activated by the proper RPM once it was reached during driving.
a chipped ecu is going to work with mostly fuel management and other volumes that can be regulated. The solenoid must have a trigger otherwise it will remain open.

Edit: Heres an old thread of mine about this---> https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-civic-del-sol-1992-2000-1/there-ecu-available-control-vtec-e-d15z1-automatic-2189381/
You can't use an OBD1 harness, you'll need to modify the harness you have.
