obd2 to obd1 conversion....now the car idles funny :(
the car idles funny now after obd1 conversion. I am running a chipped p06 that is chipped to run vtec like a p28 on my y8 motor. The idle is surging between 1000 and 1500 rpms. It doesn't do it with the obdII ecu. My friend also has the same problem with his p28 on his y8 motor. What is the problem? I've seen posts on this before and i found no real answers.

Re: (aka010010)
no i'm sure I have the correct harness. Its a 98 and I have the obd2-1 harness...not the obd2.5-1 harness. From what I'm reading it sounds like its because obd2 throttle bodies don't have FITV valves. Is there any way I can rerout a coolant line or bypass it to make it idle correctly?

i dont think that is his problem. if you got those two mixed up they wouldnt even plug in at all... the plugs are totally different (at least he didnt say they didnt plug in). its gotta be something else

Re: (Kid1320)
alright guys I think I may have it fixed...I unplugged what I think is the EVAP solenoid valve which from what people are telling me should fix the problem. I started the car up and it seems to be idling better...still haven't taken it out for a spin yet...i'm tired and i'm just gonna take it out in the morning.

i don't think it has anything to do with the coolant because it idles fine with my obd2 ecu. It has to do with something electronic.
edit: and I drove it this morning...still has that hunting idle

I had a problem going from OBDII-OBDI with an idle issue and my problem was that I had a 3 wire IACV on the OBDII and the OBDI is made to control a 2 wire IACV so it was messing everything up. I had to convert to a 2 wire IACV and switch a wire on the conversion harness, then my idle leveled right out.

Re: (Pfieffdog)
I have a y8 man. I was just fooling around with the chips that adrian from hyperducktuning gave me and I put in the b series j's racing chip which he told me would actually work real well on my y8. For some reason with this chip the idle is perfect! My car also pulls hard as **** with it. Its kinda strange how my car acts funny with the stock p28 program and all the other p28 chips, but when I put a B series chip in it works perfect ...so anyways anybody know how I can get my d series chips to idle correctly?
