obd2 ls head on a obd1 ls block?
obd2 ls head on a obd1 ls block? in a 96 civic hatch. I was wondering if this would work and pass the California emission?

only difference should be the valve covers if its 96+ and the obd2 intake mani has a evap selenoid on top of the intake manifold. I don't know about cali, that place sucks 
but if your car is 96 you should be using obd2 parts i assume.

yeah as far as i know this is what i have in my car. obd1 ls motor in a 96 civic hatchback running a d16y7 engine harness with obd1 ecu. and i was wondering if i can just swap the head.

IIRC California law dictates that the motor swap has to be the same year or newer, and they started putting VIN's on honda blocks in 96 I believe.
so I'm basically saying they could easily see its not a 96 block and give you an insta-fail.
but to answer your question, yes I believe nearly all B-series heads are interchangeable.

ALL B18B heads are the same, whether OBD0 or OBDI. So this should not be a problem. As for smog, an OBDI block in an OBDII car will fail if you are trying to get your ref sticker. BUT, if you already have your ref sticker and are just doing a biennial smog check, then you should have no problem. Smog techs SOMETIMES confirm the block code to make sure you haven't swapped in yet a different engine. But since the OBDI and OBDII blocks have the same code, this won't be a problem.

Cool Great INFO GUYS! I really appreciate the help. i think i best bet is just to swap in a obd2 long block. Any more suggestion would help out a lot.
