Default obd2 jdm d15b vtec head question

I have a obd2 jdm d15b vtec swap in my 99ex.. it has a vacuum leak between the head and intake manifold right now.. i have tried another intake manifold and obviously a new gasket and it is still leaking so im assuming that the mating surface on the head is messed up..

SOOO... my questions is will a usdm d16y8 head bolt up to this jdm d15b block with using the head bolts and timing belt and everything that i already have? I dont want to have to start buying new timing belt and head bolts because after i buy the head itself and the head gasket if i buy much else i may as well just buy another motor and save myself the work.

Thanks in advance for any info

well i believe its leaking on the bottom side and its kinda hard to get to.. i realize i could probably just pull the head off and the studs out of the intake manifold mating surface and have it surfaced it a machine shop but i dont mind to spend the money on a used y8 head and just swapping them out if they are 100% interchangeable

Why are you taking the head off to put honda bond on the intake gasket?

head should swap right over no problem. are you sure you got all the orig gasket off when you first put the manifold on. it can be a pain to get it off sometimes

yeah i did.. thats what made me so mad lol i spend an hour and a half with a razorblade getting all the gasket off and it STILL leaked.. so i wont need different head studs or a different timing belt? and i just get a y8 head gasket correct?

If you want to put a Y8 head on a D15B block (assuming it's all stock) I would suggest getting new head bolts since it will bump the compression up a little. How did you find that it was leaking between the manifold and head? Leak down test? Are you ABSOLUTELY sure it's not just a broken hose or something simple that you might have over looked? I still say instead of getting a new head and all this other stuff, just put some gasket maker on it and call it a day. Nobody sees it down there and it'll work just fine. It's your money/motor though, so it's up to you.

you know what i guess it wouldnt hurt to at least try sealing it that way first.. and ive looked over all the hoses pretty well and haven't found anything.. i sprayed some PB Blaster where the intake manifold meets the head and the car drowned down and almost died which is what makes me think thats where the leak is.

The weird part is that its just a normal lope until i leave it idling like at a red light and then after a couple minutes idling it starts loping incredibly fast and when you give it slight throttle its the fastest lope ive ever heard but as soon as you turn the key off and back on it goes back to the normal lope until you let it idle for a couple of minutes again.

Any idea by that description if my assumption of the leaky intake manifold/ head is right?

honda bond did not fix anything.. although i was unable to put any on the bottom of the manifold so the leak could be there.. who knows.. on top of this my brand new set of 195/45/15 tires got stolen out of my car ... guess its about time to give up..

i recently bought a jdm obd2 d15b with plans of boosting it. unfortunately i didnt know that this was a crap motor. as it comes with teh 3 stage vtec.

my question is, can i use a z6 or a y8 head on this and is it a straight bolt on?
also is this block the same as the z6 and y8?

id like to use the vitara kit from fj distributor.... but am not sure of this kit is ok to use on the obd2 d15b 3 stage vtec block.

someone please help. im stuck here and dont knwo what to do. ive researched this everywhere but no one knows much about this motor

thank you
