OBD2 harness in a obd1 car (NOT THE INTEGRA HARNESS BUT THE UNSPLIT CIVIC ONE!!!)
man, I searched for like 45 minutes and got tired of seeing everything about gsr swaps and blah blah blah.
Apparently the obd2 gsr harnesses are split at the shock tower like they should be. However I recently bought a 99 hx engine that came with an engine wire harness, however it's the one that isn't split near the shock tower... if i wanted to put this in my odb1 hatch, couldn't I just run the plugs through the firewall to the ecu and everything would be fine (running the obd2 ecu) Don't think of this as "should i convert to obd1" think about this as will this function correctly.
oh and it's a 99 hx if that matters

Re: OBD2 harness in a obd1 car (Bense)
use your stock harness 92-95 civics=(obd1) = 2 pieces harness will save you a lots of headache later down the road. it should be plug and play for obd1.
need to give more info on the car for the hx motor to go in. cause hx motor will need a bit more wiring.

i would say the easiest way is to run a 92-95 civic harness, pref w/vtec but not necessary you'll just have to add it. Then in order to run the proper ecu for the hx get an obd1 to obd2a jumper harness, and run a 96-98 hx ecu. You'll also have to manually wire the 5 wire o2 sensor into the ecu plugs on the jumper, no big deal. As for the distributor plug, im not exactly sure for the hx, but id guess an si/ex dizzy should work. Your main problem is the hx is different than the ex motor where you could just use a obd1 p28, you wanna run the hx specific ecu with that engine, if you want it to run right. Also if you look on that harness theres only 2 plugs for the ecu, on the 99-00 obd2a civics, one ecu plug is on the dash harness, as opposed to obd2a 96-98 civics that have all three plugs.

See, that would require me to buy a wire harness in good condition for a ex or gsr. then that would require me to run a jumper harness. Where as if I could just run this I wouldn't need anything.

yeah it sux, but it will save you alot of headaches, sell the 99 harness and youll make some money. You wouldn't need a jumper if it wasn't an hx, but its the economy vtec so you cant just use a p28. Maybe do some research and see how much they have in common with the vx motors, maybe you can run one of those ecus.

I have already done that. I don't care if it's the "best idea" or not. I just want to know if it will work. I don't care about future swap issues. I just want to get this motor in my car and running reliably. P28 sucks for vtec-e. Trust me, I'm not going to do that.

i never said p28 which is the ex ecu, i said vx ecu which is VTEC-e, as far as using the 99 harness, it wont run right, and will be a major hack job. You want it to run right your gonna have to spend a little money, or get a 99 civic shell if you wanna use that harness. Theres a reason no one bothers with that crap.
