Default OBD2 Car With OBD1 engine/ECU HOW DO YOU CHECK THE ENGINE CODES???

I just finished doing an lsvtec setup in a 96 ek hatch. The b16 ecu we used was a obd 1 ecu along with the head. We used a conversion kit from ebay so we did not have to switch all the wires our self (thank god). After starting the motor and breaking in the piston rings/walls reving from 3-5 for the first 20 miles.....we drove around for another 50 miles before deciding to see if the vtec would engage (we def wern't going to redline)...there was no vtec and a whole lot of dissapointment...plus while driving the car it does feel a tad bit slugish...when i did my h22 swap into my accord i forgot to plug in the knock sensor in a hurry to get things done and it was in the safe mode and ran like **** lol...i guess my question is if we wanted to check the Check Engine Light how are we going to do that when the ecu is in an obd2 car???
Any suggestions would help!!! thanks!!!

it will still have a CEL. YOu just cant scan the codes with a OBD2 scanner. You have to jump it and read the codes by counting flashes from the CEL.

He just answered your question... jump the service connector, which makes the CEL flash like morse code. get a service manual for info on how to diagnose the problem from there.
