Default OBD1 VSS in a OBD2 car?

I have searched but did not find anything. Ok i broke my speedsensor while changing my clutch, and replaced it with a speed sensor from a 92-95 (OBD1) car but my speedometer is still not working in my car. My car is a 96 civic HX. I was wondering if the OBD1 and OBD2 speed sensors are the same or if there may be something else going on. Please help i have no speedometer and no vtec.
