Icon2 Wire Harness problemsi into 2000 Civic

Question, My Dad just bought a 2000 Honda Civic Ex coupe, and it had a D15b7 in it, and out threw a rod( i have never seen suck a big whole) back to my question He bought a complete rebuilt block, and head for a turbo build. The only problem is it is an OBD1 engine, and they had an obd1 D15 in it and obd2 ecu and wire harness and instead of buying an obd2 to obd1 conversion the just cut and spliced wires a complete mess. I was wondering if we take out my ecu, wire harness from a 95 civic ex obd1 and put them into my dads 2000 civic ex? I'm sure it well work but what about the SRS wiring under dash, radio. Here are some picsRageCivic95@yahoo.com I can not find the upload to put up pics?

My Dad just bought a 2000 Honda Civic Ex coupe, and it had a D15b7 in it, and it threw a rod. So he purchased a JDM ZC SOHC Vtec OBD1 engine, and the harness in the car was all sliced up and a mess so he bought a obd2a wire harness with obd2a to obd1 jumper and obd2 to obd 1 Disrupter adapter the ecu is a P28 out of a 95 civic ex. I’m stuck on 5 adapter plugs on where they go. Here are some pics I hope someone can help, I’m getting so flustered and freezing in Minnesota. I hope someone can help? I have been searching and reading a lot of posts for the last three days.

I would get a new Wiring harness that matches the chasis and just wire up the new engine. you can run an OBD1 ECU with a converter.

theres an extra plug on the obd2 harness. i think its yellow and has 4-5 wires. so if you just put in a complet obd1 harness, i doubt it would start without modifying it.

Obd1 is two piece and obd2 is one so that won't work. Just get a 99-00 EX engine harness and try to find a D16Y8 engine as well so it'll plug and play.

Hondas are a lot easier than it may seem at first. Once you really get to working on them you may end up a huge fan of Honda engineering.

The reason we got into is the prices, but I'm reading a lot and learning about the vtec and it is a amazing. I can not wait until spring when I start my build back up. I'm ordering parts and I getting peoples feedback on a respectable JDM Seller, because I'm going to do a full B18b swap. I'm starting with my Dads car, then a B18, and I really want a 95 Hatchback and do a K-swap. I really need to learn more about the stand alone ECU's. Thank You everyone

There's an easy way to drop that engine in (Assuming it's another D15B7):

  • Use a '99 - '00 EX harness as stated.
  • Use a '99 - '00 D16Y7/D16Y8 distributor, it will both bolt up to the head and plug into the engine harness, not cutting and splicing or hacking required this way.
  • Use D16Y8 or OBD2 B-series injectors, they fit the engine and the harness and are the correct flow rate (240CC)
  • Use a '96 - '00 Civic alternator (Except Si) again it bolts up and plugs in
  • Use an OBD2B to OBD1 conversion harness and a P06 ECU
If you're doing a turbo build a D15B7 kinda sucks though, the rods are weaker than a D16 and they tend to blow headgasket even as a stock engine. A D16Z6 or a D16Y8 with a D16Z6 crank is a lot better platform to start with. The only issue you'll run into with a Z6 is you have to either make a distibutor (use Y7/Y8 CKP/CYP/TDC sensors in a Z6 housing) or cut and splice plugs or use an adapter harness.

Here it goes my Dad bought the D16 obd1, and got it in and I'm just have trouble with some of the wire harness. I got a OBD2a wire harness, that is what I read to do. I list the pictures of what I'm stuck on and I have been looking for a Harness laid out and the connectors labeled but that would be to easy. Thank You for the help in advanced.

Are you trying to run an abd2a harness in a 2000 civic? The interior harnesses are still obd2b and it will not work.

Ok then I should use the one that took off the car to begin with. They had a obd2 wire harness on a obd1 engine and running a obd2 ecu. THey made wiring adjustments, but it did work until the kid threw a rod

Yep, it needs to be an OBD2B harness.

2nd pic is the IAT plug, you'll need to swap this for the OBD1 round plug or use an OBD2 IAT in the intake arm.

3rd pic is the IACV plug, it needs to be swapped for a 2 wire version and you'll have to perform the IACV at the ECU plug.

Ok, I guess Ill go through there wire harness and switch what needs to be done. Since the car came with the wire harness and it had a D15b7 in it, would everything wire up, besides the Vtec because the engine before did not have a vtec?

How could a person tell if the original harness is OBD2b?

Btw, that harness is for an automatic, a lot of the plugs that are broken are for the automatic trans.

Post Re: OBD1 ECU, Motor and Harness into 2000 Civic

Here are two pictures with the wiring Harness OBD2b to a OBD1 engine, What I have to change and what plug goes to what sensor. If you don't want to help it's ok I have been trying to put a OBD2a In the car the past two days. If anyone can help it would be great. When I convert this harness then I'll have to get a obd2 jumper to obd1 right? and a OBD2 to OBD1 Distributor adapter?

Dude don't take this the wrong way, but those pics look like they were taken with a potato. They're blurry as hell. Help me help you, take clear pictures. Use the macro setting on your camera (the flower) and take pics of the plugs in such a way that you can see the wire colors going into them like so:

From what I see someone already did a half assed hack job of converting this harness to OBD1 before. The alternator plug has already been done, and it looks like someone did the injector clips as well. #8 is the distributor plug, and what you have labeled as a ground appears to be the signal wire for the starter solenoid (should be black with a white stripe)

What engine exactly are you dropping in as it will affect your options for the distributor.

Hello, and sorry for the late response my bull-mastiff was chasing my daughters cat and the cat jumped on the coffee table and the dog followed and my laptop was no match for 137lb dog. So I got the pictures and with my camera I was going to label them like I did but I just opened this computer and still working things out, but I hope you can help. Yea someone did hack it up I'm in process of soldering and shrink tubing everything together and get rid of the connectors. To keep better flow, and looks cleaner too. Happy Holidays

Here are my last three pictures and if you need me to take more pictures or anything please just ask, and Thank You. Once you tell me what goes where I label it all with tape and repost for other people to see if they are having problems.
