Default OBD1 D15B swap into 2000 hatch...tachometer doesn't work

Hey guys,

So I just put in an OBD1 JDM D15B swap into my 2000 DX hatchback. I have changed all the necessary wires for the swap (IACV, VTEC, distributor, etc.) and everything is working perfectly. VTEC is engaging, and the idle is perfect. I am using a chipped OBD1 PR4 ECU with an OBD2B-to-OBD1 conversion harness. It has the VTEC components added to it and it's running P08 maps.

BUT, the tach doesn't work. I rewired the distributor using my stock OBD2B harness, and there is a blue wire left over on the 2-wire OBD1 distributor plug. I understand this is the tachometer signal wire, but I can't figure out where to run it. A knowledgeable member on here told me there is a blue wire somewhere near the driver-side shock tower that is the "tachometer test wire", which I should run it to, but I can't find it...I've done multiple h-t and google searches, and it seems everyone knows its there but nobody has a picture.

I also read this online:

"Then you need to run a blue wire (tach signal) from the 2pin over to the blue rpm signal wire on the driver side strut tower. There is a main harness over there that has a blue wire with a cap on it. remove the cap and connect the two blue wires together. this will give you a tach signal."

But I can't locate it....

Here is where I am looking in my car:

Does anyone know exactly where this thing is located? Any help would be appreciated...it's really annoying not having a tachometer.

Okay,

So I have an update:

I just went to the Honda dealer that's around the corner from my work and I had 4 service guys looking under my hood and they couldn't find the tach test wire either. One of them looked it up on the computer, and apparently the 96-98 Civics have the test wire blue-taped to the main harness by the strut tower. 99-00 Civics have the tach test wire in a small box in the same location... doesn't make much sense to me, but if anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated.

this is at the firewall on the corner of the driver's side if you couldn't tale but it is just the single blue wire connected to a black rubber cap. the black cap comes off and male spade connector will fit in for a temporary connection or in your case permanent.

Hope that helps

it is a 2000 Ex coupe.

I believe there is also one up near the front headlight. it will just be a brown connector and taped to side of the split loom harness. check there as well as I believe mine had both

Mine has that one, but that is the wiring for the OEM foglight harness.

Thanks for your help man.

I removed the DRL box and still didn't see the wire, so I gave up.

While the box was removed, I noticed I had easy access to the rubber grommet on the firewall that goes into the car. So I ran the wire through the firewall to the back of the cluster.

Thanks anyways guys

OBD2b civics/tegs do not have the tach wire where you'd expect it to be, the tach is driven from the ECU not the distributor.
To make it work jumper a wire from the distributor to A19 of the OBD2b ECU plugs. (if you can't find the blue wire at the shock tower) Or the cluster if you wish.
