No missing a gear isn't normal. j/k. No it's not normal. Maybe it's chipped. Is a p30 OBD1 or OBD2? Cause if it's OBD1 it could be chipped.

did you miss 4th or go back to 2nd. if you went back to second the car will rev past rev limiter as long as the car is not accelerating it will rev past the limiter. like if you go from 5th to second and just let the clucth out it will rev hella high. a lot of people would do the this when the rsx's first came out they would miss 4th to 5th becasue the transmissions are so close. but if you just didnt get the car into 4th ( or any other gear ) and it just reved it should have hit the rev limitter.

Is it still running fine? No stock b16 should rev. to 9500 rpm. If everything feels fine, then you are lucky. I wouldn't recomend doing that again. Next time your valves might not be as forgiving lol

Are you saying you miss-shifted into a lower gear? There's nothing the ECU can do about that, it's called a mechanical over-rev. You're using the gearing and the forward speed of the vehicle to rev the engine.

It's just accelerated wear, that's all. Unless you miss-shift. As discussed in this thread, miss-shifting at redline is bad because you can rev the engine well beyond it's design limit.

just because you chip your ecu does not mean you can rev it higher than stock. Your gona need to upgrade your valve train and cams if you want to make power that high
