it CAN be done, but i wouldn't suggest it. You should try to find another motor that's not OBD0 cause wiring is just going to be a mess along with getting it to ork properly with no check engine lights.

because the engine is older than the car. To do it legal you need an engine the same year as your car or newer.

yeah it is illegal, but if you don't have emissions, no one will know... jdm motors are illegal in some places too.... people still put them in all the time. I would say if the price is right, go for it. the wiring is a little more complicated than a straight drop in, but it's not that difficult. the only thing off the top of my head that i can think off would be switching to an obd II dizzy, using a hydro tranny... hmmm... what else... we did this on my gf's car, just can't remember what else you need to do.

What part of MD are you in? We have emissions here in southern maryland. I think its every 2 years.

I think obd0 cars have cable trannys and obd1/obd2 have hydro. So you'd have to do a hydro to cable conversion.

The electronics are simple. Run an OBD0 ecu, distributor and O2 sensors and run my OBD2a to OBD0 conversion harness.

Or you can get OBD1/2 electronics and run them on the older motor.

I think it would be easier to use the Obd 2 electronics with the wiring harness out of your obd 2 car.

if it's just the block, I don't think it will be any problem then. I don't think you need to convert any sensors. In fact since it's jdm i don't think anyone would even be able to trace it back to being obd0. just slap b16a2 head on there. I think thats where the date is stamped anyways.

when you goto inspection they probably hook your ECU up to their computer to run the emissions portion of the test (its called OBD2). So converting to OBD1 or OBD0 is not an option.....since they cannot connect to an OBD1 or OBD0 ECU to check your emissions. If you were to try an update the OLD OBD0 block to OBD2 i believe the only IMPORTANT sensor is probably the crank fluctuation sensor which youd hafta figure out how to install on your block. Aside from that there is probably other sensors that your engine is looking for that the block does not have (IE Knock sensor) which would cause a CEL and an autmatic failed inspection. Get an OBD2 block or swap in the new motor AFTER going through inspection so you have it for 2 years before you need to do something.

Did anyone ever get a d15b1 running in a 96 auto civic? Right now it has a y8 in it with rod knock, and I have a d15b1 sitting around. I don't care about emissions or inspection I just wanna know what you gotta do to make it run and drive. I need this car on the road asap that's why I hope this is the fastest and cheapest solution. Not going for power just low and slow.

It depends on where you live and if they require obd2 inspections, if it does you'll need to buy obd2 components and an obd2 p30 ecu. Rare to find.
