Default obd0 in 93 civic

I just bought a 93 civic dx with a d16y8 head on it. the owner had thrown a rod through the block. I am planning on fully building this engine for all motor but for now i need to put my sohc zc (non vtec) into the car. So what will i need to do to make this work. Can i get away with not taking off the intake manifold from the y8 head? The car has the stock dx ecu, but the past owner said it was chipped for the vtec. I do not want to convert to obd0 because the other motor will be going back in hopefully before next fall. i searched but nobody really had any answers so let me know so i can get started. thanks Jay
