OBD Conversion Questions
So, I'm reading a bunch of swap forums trying to get the info I need to swap my y7 in my 97 DX to a y8, I was randomly reading a z6 swap forum because why not you know? Maybe theres some info in there I could use. I ran into something that I noticed in some other forums that really confuses me, they mentioned using the stock harness as well with a jumper harness for obd 1 to obd 2 with the stock p28 ecu for a z6 or something along those lines. Heres where I'm confused. If I were to swap to a z6 and use the STOCK harness including with the STOCK ecu, why, if needed, would you need a jumper harness? Thanks in advance.

You can't use your stock ECU on the D16Z6 with a stock harness.
The D16Z6 does not have a crank fluctuation sensor that the Y7 and Y8 do.
If you wish to run the D16Z6 motor you have to use the conversion harness to convert your OBD2 harness to OBD1 and then use the P28 (stock OBD1 D16Z6) ECU.
If you swap your injectors or hard wire the OBD1 injectors and figure out your dizzy wiring for the D16Z6 with your OBD2 harness and try and run your OBD2 ECU, you will get a CEL for the crank fluctuation sensor, the missing downstream (2nd) O2 sensor and possibly another missing system on the Z6 OBD1 engine.
Also, I believe it's illegal in most states to use an older engine in a new car. You might want to check your local regulations on that.
