o2 sensor help!
I put my new POS ebay hi-flow cat on my 2000 civic ex today but the o2 sensor wouldnt reach far enough to plug it into the hole on the cat. I just left it hanging there for the time being. I plan on pulling it out of the ecu and not having it at all. My check engine light was already on because of that o2 sensor anyway. Will it hurt anything such as the engine, performance, gas mileage? Should I just splice the wires and extend them to the hole? Also, since then I havent been able to tell that my Vtec is engaging. It used to be noticeable and loud and now I cant even tell its there. Could this be bc the engine is getting the wrong mixture bc of the o2 sensor not being plugged up? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

It won't hurt your engine. It could make you get bad gas mileage, but that's about all.
Have your codes read to make sure you're not throwing anything besides the O2 sensor code.

Re: o2 sensor help! (NOFX)
Thats the only code I'm throwing. I was told that the sensor isnt even bad but that my catback exhaust caused it to come on because it changes the back pressure which makes sense bc it can on like the day after I put it on. I'm sure the new header and cat wont help. I cant decide if I wana pull the sensor out completely or extend the wires. My check engine light will be on either way.

I pluged my Hi-flow cat O2 hole and had a socket welded on the A pipe just before the cat and mine works just fine. I even have my exhaust piped out to 2 1/2" all the way to the resinator.

I was trying to say that if VTEC isn't working, you should be throwing a code (is there anytime you would not throw a code if VTEC did not work - let me know).

I decided to just take the o2 sensor off completely and for some reason I'm not throwing any codes anymore but I still cant tell that Vtec is engaging and my gas mileage isnt bad but isnt what it should be so I think I'm just guna put the o2 sensor back on and extend the wires.

Re: o2 sensor help! (iluvmy2000civicex)
I just snipped the wires and plugged the sensor in and the cut the wires off of my buddies old o2 sensor from his 99 Accord and spliced them in. Vtec is back so I guess it wasnt getting the right mixture to engage b4. Gas mileage is better then ever and CEL is gone. Thanks for the help guys. Thread ended.
