Default A note to people doing rear disc conversions

This is just an interesting tidbit that i found while we worked on my rear disc conversion on my 98 hatch. The Rear trailing arms are NOT needed! I realized this first hand because the rear trailing arms that were installed first were bent meaning that on one side I had +1.7 camber and +2.34 on the other side with a +14/32" toe to boot! So, to alleviate this problem, we matched up a set of trailing arms from a drum brake setup and after that, i was back on the negative camber side of things. That is all, thanks for reading. Hope this helps people out with their rear disc endeavors.

Cliff Notes: When buying rear disc conversions, MAKE SURE THE REAR TRAILING ARMS AREN'T BENT!!

If you have problems with your rear trailing arms, you can use any drum brake trailing arm and mate the rear disc, hub, and caliper to it. To do this, you'll need some crazy socket like an 18mm and some "star" head drivers.

knew that...but its just a hell of a lot easier if the trailing arm is there (and in good shape)

Very true, and the "socket" you need is a Torx key...

This is how I have done a couple, sometimes it's easier one way, sometimes it's easier to swap the whole arm, but if you do then you have to realign. Only thing that really sucks is when you strip the Torx nuts, and have to either drill or torch them out.

Yeah the 3 bolts to get the hub off are a biotch! That's why most people swap the whole trailing arm.

Maybe you should have included the # sign in your post then, because the way you said sounded like it had three bolts holding it on

Yep, if you go to the How To section on the top of this section, I did a complete write up with pics and tools and how to do it. Its on page three I think. Just do a search in the archives and it will pull up a thread from about a year ago. And just for added info, this enables you to run rear discs from 91 up tegs, si's, hatch's, del sols, etc as long as you use the right e-brake cables.

seriously good info.
one of my friends did a rear disc swap on his CRX solo1 race kaah and all he had to buy from the junkyard was $100 worth of parts since he didnt replace the trailing arms! I was pissed since that is 1/3rd of what I paid for my rear disc swap because I bought the entire trailing arm and shipping costs were a beyotch!
