I've been tossing around the idea myself on my CRX. I painted the rear quarter panels back to factory colours and it came out GREAT... not as shiny as stock but a really rich colour. I recommend that if you're going to do it just mask and spray - don't sand down the paint or break the factory finish because you'll have to worry about sealing the body against moisture again.

I didn't sand or primer... I just taped and sprayed . I'd try it on a bit of the interior first, like by pulling up your carpet to make sure the spray will stick to your paint.
