Not the right engine in my CX
And anyone that knows anything about civics? My friend has a 95 civic cx hatchback which is only supposed to have 70 hp. He looked at the engine code on the engine and it was a D15b, which is not the cx engine (weird). And his valve cover says 16 valve, which shouldn't be right either, it should be 8 valve. He also has Mitsubishi belts. And he bought it stock with no upgrades.

D15b7 will have 16valve on the cover. Rub a little harder after the b and a 7 should appear. Sounds like a stock DX motor to me. As far as the Mitsubishi belts go, I have them on my stock Dx too. Nothing special. Pretty sure they all came with them because I still have stock belts on me Dx (only has 82Km). Check to see if there is a vtec solinoid and wiring.

I'm pretty sure there is a non-VTEC D15B, it is similar to the D15B7, either that or it could be a D15B block that just has a B7 head on it, probably from someone snagging the VTEC head and exchanging that for their head.

Regardless of which D15B it is, he's a lucky ****. He's got an extra 30 HP, which is pretty nice in a car that weighs that little.
I know my cx would benefit greatly from a free extra 30 hp

Are you guys sure the belts dont say "MitsubOshi"?
Those were OEM belts when I used to work for Honda, I remember something about those belt names. That may explain some things.
If they really do say Mitsubishi....weird.

the cx motor's intake manny would be small
and each time you make a turn you would need to downshift
the gears are also pathetic

Yep, D15B7 were stock in Canada. The one in my 95 CX has over 432,xxxkm & still running strong! The timing belt was just done too, so I can still run it until I can afford a K20A2 swap.
