Default Not a good day - rear brake piston problem

So I do the driver side, no problem. I go to do the other side and the boot pops over the piston And I remember I put the the cover back on the reservoir before I pushed the piston back in So now I'm left with a caliper with a boot-covered piston and hopefully not a damaged master cylinder. She's still on the jacks. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

There aren't any leaks from my idiocy of leaving the reservoir cap on. I'm hoping there is a way to get that boot back around the piston though....

Moving the boot with my fingers = not too efficient

my experiences with this type of situation it the master cyclinder blows a seal somewhere and you might need to replace it, as for the piston on the rear caliper you might need to dissconnect the caliper from the brake line to release the fluid pressure on it. the you will be able to twist the piston back in, and pull the rubber seal back around it. then you will need to bleed everything.

Any idea on what seal I should look for? I don't have any leaks. And the piston is already in all the way or damn close.

so you got the rear brake caliper back together? so then is everything ok? i have seen and heard of people that have pushed brake caliper pistons back in with the MC cap on and it blows a seal somewhere on the master Cylinder. you will know if you have when it feels like you need to bleed the brakes and you will never get the brake pressure you need. let me know what happens

Do you know which seal it is on the MC? I'm going to replace the caliper and cut this boot and see what happens. There shouldn't be brake fluid inside the boot and it should work fine for a week or so as the pads are brand new and the piston won't be out drastically far. I need to get the caliper or fix the situation so I can find out on the MC though

well it could be any seal on the MC. it could be where the resivoir connests to the MC, it could be on the backl of the MC where it connects to the booster. its hard to really tell becuase its cheaper just to replace the MC then trying to find a rebuild kit for it. hopefully its not blown so if you just replace the rear caliper you will be all set

I want to say thanks for all the help. I ghetto rigged the back and cut part of the dust boot off. I will replace the caliper soon or have mine rebuilt. I wanted to make sure the MC was ok. As far as I could tell, the brakes feel fine. I can slam on them and they feel good to me. Perhaps a seal could be bad, but not bad enough for me to fix it The car is stopping and going again and is back on the road. Thanks again for the help, akuma.

if the brakes feel good then you probalby didnt blow a seal so thats a relief. because if you blew a seal it would leak and you would get a real soft pedal. so glad to hear everthing is up.
your welcome for the help and good luck man
