Icon6 is it normal for my shifting stick to move when i accelerate and let go of the gas?

Just bought a 2000 honda civic cx hatchaback

on every gear when i accelerate the stick moves inward of whatever gear is in but when i let go of the gas the stick moves as if its about to pop out of gear. The transmission shifts smooth and since ive had the car its never popped out of gear or anything. please advise!!!

if its not normal can it be a bushing in the shift linkage or tranny issues

Could be the shifter bushings but it also kinda sound like you might have a messed up motor mount. Maybe not, but the motor might be twisting more than it should because of a bad mount. Just guessing though.

yea sounds like shifter bushings and maybe torque mounts

As long as it's not excessive it's normal. The shifter setup consists of a shift rod and stabilizer bar. The stabilizer and shift rod are directly connected to the transmission. So when the transmission rocks when accelerating so does the shifter. If it's really excessive then chances are the rear engine mount and front lower torque mounts are bad.

Other vehicles including new civics use a cable shifted transmission so the shifter doesn't move when the engine torques.
