Normal to burn oil when VTEC kicks?
Is it normal to burn oil when you're VTEC kicks in. For example, after 3months and I'm ready to change my oil, the oil level on the dipstick is near empty. Any help appreciated. I tried searching but I couldn't find any so I decided to sign up to ask this question. thanks in advanced!

Don't know if this helps. My 93 Del Sol SI was a 1/4 quart low when I got the oil changed after purchase. But I have no idea when it was last changed. This was the first change since purchase. I am curious to see what you find out.

older motors, or more beat on motors does strangely burn oil when vtec engages. its nothing un common with vtec motors, but its not the best thing either.

if your car is older check for leaks before you start to think its burning oil, my valve cover gasket and bolt seals leak and its annoying but i'd like to get collision damage fixed first

Wrong, vtec burns off a little bit of oil everytime it's engaged.
It'd take 10k miles without an oil change for it to be low enough to barely register on the dipstick or momentarily turn the oil light on during hard braking.
Don't ask me how I know that.

normal wear and tear will burn a very very little oil,
but if your's burn too much oil then it's not normal anymore.

Yeah, that was me, haha. I really do take it fairly easy on my car. Recently after that thread though, I feel alot more comfortable about wrapping the RPMs around. The amount of oil I said I was low isn't really that much though is it? And I can't say for sure when it was last changed before that(first change since purchase off of a private seller).
