Default NoObIe HeRe!!!

Whats going on?! First off I'd like to say hello, my name is Mike. I've always been into working/restoring cars, and honestly I've primarily been a Mustang guy....! But this time I have found myself going the import route buy purchasing a 2000 civic coupe DX. I know its not VTEC, but im sure its going to be fun. To be honest I love driving the little honda so far. Its on Tein springs, arospeed rear strut bar, with an AEM intake. Still slow....but a fun project. Here is my issue. I really dont know about d this and y7 that. All I really want out of it would be a vtec head (to add the vtec of course!) and possibly some boost in the future. Im looking for about 250-300whp. Is that to much to ask for? Will the motor hold? Any and all information would be great. Sorry so long!!!

Welcome! Usually a stock d16 can hold around 200 whp safely but you would have to build the motor a little bit to achieve 300 whp.

typical new member question, no worries. but i would recommend searching, searching, and more searching first !

i would get into achieving your goal of 250-300 from your D, but there are many threads that can point you in the right direction. and you can always check out dseries.org

but... WELCOME !

Welcome Mike,

I have owned 6 or 7 Hondas in my life, (whispering)but I started out adoring American muscle.

Hope you have fun with your new ride.

Remember the basics of a motor and then decide which setup to go with.
You know "No replacement for displacement"...lol.

Cheers.

If your looking to make 250-300hp i would deff do a b series swap..stock gsr(b18) with boost(around 12psi) iam pretty sure can make 300hp..you would have to dump alot of money into the d series to make it to 250hp..and i do believe the stock d series engine can handle more then 200hp safely

I APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK SO FAR....REALLY CONSIDERING A B18 IN THE FUTURE. AS OF NOW, IM THINKING IM GOING TO GET THE BODY LOOKING GOOD FIRST. NEEDS A COUPLE OF DENTS OUT, AND A REALLY GOOD PAINT. I BOUGHT IT WITH A BEAT UP BUMPER, BUT SINCE THAN I'VE PUT ON A NEW ONE. ANYONE IN MIAMI KNOW A GOOD BODY SHOP. PREFERABLY IN THE KENDALL AREA. THE CAR RUNS REALLY GOOD, AND SMOOTH, SO FOR NOW THE MOTOR MIGHT STAY AS IT IS!

Hey Mike,

I know you're not doing it on purpose. When you type with CAPS LOCK on the whole time, it insinuates that you are yelling.

Something like "MOM... MEATBALLS...FACK"...lol
You know what I mean.

ya i would def go with a b swap your going to have to put a decent amount of money into the d for 300 hp and if you want a vtec head i would go with a y8 or a z6 there both vtec ones just older

Whats going on mike. I would recommend a b series I made 343whp on my stock block mild head. If you do consider keeping the d go with vitra pistons, best bang for the buck.

Teggy as far as your statement goes the D really shouldn't be pushed pass 220whp (stock) because of the weak rods.

I don't think he'll need quite that much on a B series, but it depends on the turbo, cams, etc.

D series motors can take a lot. A guy in town has been running like 22PSI on a D16Y7 for the last couple years.

What does 12psi have to do with anything? Do you know what turbo he would be running? lol
